GatorGirl
I have been working in Psych since I graduated (so only about 3 months now). I have a background in neurology (11 years). With my current job, I have been driving over an hour each way, not really getting paid as expected (should have been 50% of collections), and they sold one of the 4 clinics thus reducing my hours. I had an interview at an ENT clinic and loved loved loved the docs but will be an employee, 1st call all the time, and unsure of the compensation package. The other interview was with a very large psychiatry group where I also liked the psychiatrist but I will be a partner, self employed, larger compensation and completely in charge of my own patient base, and schedule. Anyone working in psych ever worry about getting pigeon holed (in case I go in that direction and then change my mind in 5 years and want to work in cardio for instance)? Other thoughts and ideas are welcome.
cinntsp
Would it be possible for you to take the new psych job, but also do a few shifts a month in urgent care to keep your hands on skills fresh?
GatorGirl
I would LOVE to work in urgent care on weekends once things settle down.
cinntsp
I think something like that would be ideal. That way you can keep up your general medicine skills and have a better bargaining position if you look to move out of psych in the future.
