Hello Everyone,

I was recently accepted into PA school in California. I am from Connecticut and I am still currently residing in CT with plans to move to California in August. I will be completing my didactic year in Cali and then I will complete all my Clinical rotations in Hawaii. I desire to work in primary care upon completion of my schooling in the state of Hawaii.

I am trying to find scholarships to help me cover the costs of school, moving and cost of living in general. I will be unable to work while in the program and do not have much savings. I want to take out minimal loans (don't we all) so I have less to pay back when I am done.

I have a lot of international experience, tons of community service, leadership positions, I am openly gay, grew up on government subsidies and like I said before desire to work in primary care.

If anyone knows of any scholarships, no matter how big or small, please let me know!

I know of the obvious Nation Health Service Corps scholarship, but I am looking for more.

Thank you,

Jacob

Hi Jacob,

I know your post is fairly recent but have you gotten any input outside of the forum on money sources? I am also looking for something other than the NHCS and interested in primary care. I will be moving from Chicago to Washington.

Feel free to personal message me. =)

Thanks!

You might try the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development's Health Profession Education Foundation. They have Scholarships and Loan repayment opportunities for California PA students. If you are a student member of the California Academy of Physician Assistants there are three scholarships available through CAPA. The AAPA Veterans Caucus, Physician Assistants for Latino Health, and African Heritage Caucus offer scholarships. The Physician Assistant Foundation of AAPA offers scholarships, There were several scholarships offered by the specialty groups of the AAPA (surgery, FP, ER, Heam Onc). Good luck in your future PA endeavors.

Is anyone able to speak about what it's like to be a student here or may have personal experience in this program? How is the IPE? I'm considering this school greatly primarily because of the rotations and lecture format.

HI! I am currently an undergrad and looking at PA schools in California (I am out of state). I would love input on the different schools and if it matters in the job field if you choose one over the other? Given that I am out of state I am leaning toward the cheaper schools such as Western University, but I am scared if this will matter in the job search that it is not highly ranked. Thanks!

      To my veteran PAs:
I recently received an email about the Student to Service HRSA scholarship that states NPs and Certified Midwives are now eligible disciplines for the upcoming scholarship cycle. The reason for the addition is the bolster primary care and obgyn providers in underserved and rural areas. Makes sense to me... however to my surprise PAs are not included in this scholarship opportunity.
Is this an issue that the AAPA would take up? If not, who can I write about this issue other than the HRSA?

Looking to do a rotation in the Bay area in 2021 as I would like to move there after graduation to practice. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on clinical rotations anywhere in the San Jose, San Fransisco, or Oakland area. Open to any specialty. Thank you!

      Hi All,
I was wondering if there are any places taking students for rotations starting in Jan 2021?
I would love a rotation in San Diego sometime between January and April as my husband is mobilized there with the NH Army National Guard.
Other areas of geographical interest are the Midwest, New England, Alaska and Hawaii for Jan 2021-Dec 2021. Specifically rotations located in the following places:
Western SD, Cheyenne, WY, Casper, WY, Western Nebraska, Denver, CO area inc. the foothills, Sioux City, IA, Topeka, KS, Indianapolis, IN, Palmer, AK, Hawaii, Minnesota, NH, VT, ME, and/or MA
      Thank you in advance!!
