Can anyone give some advice if Pre-pa program is necessary for PA school? The University i got accepted to offers that program but money is short and i'm not sure whether i should do 2 years at a community college then finish at a 4 year, or put off PA for now and take an ems course and work as an EMT to acquire more money and be able to pay for university?

community college courses are fine. definitely do the emt and get some experience before you apply. prior hce makes a world of difference in school and in practice.

Thank you for replying to my post, i also think it would benefit me, but do you think i should wait to see if i get enough money from scholarships and fafsa before i start thinking going straight to community college?

if you get a bunch of scholarships then university courses are fine of course. just don't skimp on the hce component of your application.

Of course yeah! Thank you that helps, so EMT would be a great decision if i wanted to get some HCE? Another thing do you think that majoring in biology is the way to go or something more health related, for example athletic training?

major doesn't matter. do something that interests you and gets you all your prereqs. I did medical anthropology.

In retrospect I am very glad I majored in biology.  Courses like biochem, mole cell, pathophys, etc actually do deepen your understanding of medicine and treatment.  I did not feel this way until midway into my clinical year, and probably even have posted "oh you don't need those classes" on this forum several times.  But now I am quite glad I took them.  Ochem was however never useful.

That being said you still don't need them and can do quite well without them.  We have some strong students in my school who majored in English and fine arts.  Ultimately I still say do what you enjoy, even if it's not bio.  But don't sell the degree short either.  And let's be serious, life experience comes from life, not college courses.  Regarding community college, I say go for it.

You may be a more attractive candidate if you major in something other than pre-PA studies (assuming you also meet the prerequisites). Admissions candidates are looking for well-rounded candidates with interesting backgrounds.

pre-pa is not something that you major in is just the prerequisites to get in pre Pa. But yeah I understand about having interesting backgrounds.

That really helps, thank you! Don't get me wrong I love biology and there's also other interesting things to major in you know, so I'm just trying to decide which one will help me in the long run. Thanks! (:

If you are going to spend money on getting an education before PA school, you might want to consider something that would lead to a job you'd like doing should PA school not materializing for you in the near term.

yeah mostly everyone says emt is good to get experience and some money but maybe being a nurse for a while could def help!

In case you were wondering, it is doubtful that a pre-PA program will do anything to prepare you for PA school or increase your chance of getting admitted. You should, however, major in something like biology to be sure you are focused on pre-reqs. BTW, I would bet that 99 percent of PAs were never in an under grad pre-PA program.
