Simplify
I will be finishing PA school in the next year and I am fairly certain I would like to do an EM residency. My question is- do I apply to one fresh out of the gates or take a year to get a little experience and bolster the bank account a bit. Do residencies have a preference for applicants either way? Moderator EMEDPA Posted December 21, 2013 Moderator Share Posted December 21, 2013 easier to do now then later. hard to quit a 100k/yr job to go do a residency at 45k/yr. easy to go from student to 45k/yr.
Moderator True Anomaly Posted December 21, 2013 Moderator Share Posted December 21, 2013 I'd echo E's recommendation of trying to go in straight out of school. It's what I did. Going straight from school means you're less likely to develop bad habits of practice during that year-long break between PA school and eventually landing in residency.
