What's the deal with UMES? It's a nice campus out in the middle of nowhere but its a nice campus. They have some really state of the art resources for their PA program.

I know they are a small program, I don't think they take more than 20 if that. I 'm just wondering? PM me if you feel like it I think it is a another opportunity for Vets still looking to get into a PA program. Just a thought. PM me if anybody has applied there...or considered it. Just curious.

Thanks

Hey LesH...by any chance, did you apply to UMES? Do you think it makes a great deal of difference that their program is a BS degree vs an MS?

LESH is program director at San Joaquin Valley CC in Calif. I imagine he's not terribly interested in applying to PA school anywhere as an AARP PA (hey, your words, not mine)....

But it does look like a nice program. I looked at it last Thanksgiving (just Internet looking) when they had a faculty posting. The town where it's located looks very quaint and cute...but again, not too cheap.

LOL, Lisa, I am proud of my AARP PA status "aint no shame to my geriatric game.";) Hey if the Rolling Stones and Earth Wind & Fire can still gig there must be hope.

Ninghilds I like their program. If things had been different I might have been the PD there but it wasn't my time to move back east. The PD they have now is a great person IMHO doing a good job. I have worked as a consultant to the program and like how they set up their curriculum and the resources that the school had committed to the program.

I know that they are considering the transition to MS eventually but that is a long cumbersome institutional process. I cannot answer your question about if the Degree makes a difference because as L said I am a California PA. We do things differently out on the West Coast. If you were out here in Cali I can say no it doesn't matter. Having the C is what matters.

Still there are ways that a student going to a Cert/AS/ BS program can get a MS degree either post graduation or concurrent with their PA training so if the degree is a concern then one could take that route.

In short I like the program. If I were a pre pa knowing what I know I would apply. I like their mission, but its not everyone's cup of tea.

Take care

LesH

Miss L., thank you for correcting me on Lesh's status, and yes, UMES's location is beautiful.

Lesh, thank you for the information regarding UMES and for answering my question. I've looked into their program late in the game, but I've finished my application and will send it off today.
