I am constantly looking for ways to broaden by experience and knowledge.  I have found my "niche" to work with closed populations - i.e. Dept of Corrections/Mining Camps/Oil Fields & Refineries/Seafood Processing as a solo provider.

 

My ideal job would be:

 

  Rotational in nature - 4 weeks on  4 weeks off or less (won't rule out longer - would depend upon the position)

   Paid travel/housing/meals

  10-12 hour shift - prefer nights to days

   Married status if possible - i.e. I could bring my wife if she wanted to.

 

Areas of International Interest:  Australia, New Zealand, Oceania, Argentina, Peru, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Dominican

Republic, Carribean, South Africa, Botswana, Turkey, Dubai, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, the UK, Germany

 

Areas of Domestic Interest:  West Coast/South West - basically anywhere west of the Rocky Mountains. 

Current licensure in Alaska, California and Washington State.

 

Position could be Locums - however most locums assignments I've seen have been in the 8-13 week time span.

 

Scheduling to me is far more important than salary.  That is not to say that salary is unimportant - it is.

beacon oil has positions on the north slope and on shemya(aleutians) either 2 weeks on/2 weeks off or month on/month off.

medcor has many solo positions at yellowstone, midway, etc

raytheon polar services staffs antarctica as well as several other distant posts

seavin hires pas for egypt. they are alays recruiting at the aapa conference

remote medical has stuff all over thew world

I think that Seavin left the country as their contract was finished (as I considered going back with them a few years ago) in 2011.       Hi everyone, 
      Have you ever have doubts choosing the PA path, with the "what if I move to a country that doesn't recognize this profession"? In my case, I've been in the US for 13 years, married, with kids and my home country has never heard of PAs. I don't really have intentions of moving back, but there's always the what if? Not strong enough to change my mind, but kind of lurking there. Anyone with similar thoughts?

      I am a physician assistant practicing in psychiatry. I was recently offered, and subsequently accepted a remote behavioral health position at my organization. In this role, I am working overnight placing admission orders ONLY (yes, it's a limited role) after talking to nursing staff and the intake team by conference call. Before putting in any orders, I will call the on call psychiatrist to clear me to give these orders. Sounds straightforward and incredibly simple, right?
       
      Well, the Pennsylvania Medical Board denied my written agreement stating "not enough supervision." I am speaking with a psychiatrist by phone in regards to EVERY patient and am also required to see my supervising doc in person on a monthly basis, per my organization's requirements. Per the AMA and PSPA, there is absolutely NO REQUIREMENT for in-person supervision. The doc must simply be available by phone if he or I requests.
       
      Why is the board denying? I feel like we've stepped back in time here... Now the board is continuing to deny until they meet in person at their next monthly pow-wow.
       
      Just venting mostly, but also curious if anyone has advice.

      I have the option of working 36 hours a week so can do four 9s and have a day off but lose some percentage of pay.  I am thinking of doing that and trying out a different job PRN or doing some remote work.  Any suggestions?  I have looked into medical record review but cannot find a remote position for PAs in Ohio to do that. Thanks!

      Can PA's do a residency in another country? And would they be able to practice their certification in that country, should they decide to move to that country??

      I’m a prospective PA students currently attending school interviews. For interviews, I’m trying to come up with a substantive presentation for how I see my career playing out, but I’m a little fuzzy on what is available to PAs in the fields of expedition medicine, travel (international) medicine, and mountain medicine. I’ve read up a bit on various sites including Wilderness Medical Society (read up on their Fellowship of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine), worldextrememedicine.com, adventuremedic.com, and opportunity-posting sites like medicalmissions.org. The problems I’ve been running into is that these sites are thorough in their descriptions of certs offered, but even international or expedition job posting sites are not clear about which opportunities are available to PA’s. As a result, I know how I can be certified, but I don’t know what I can do with it. PA’s in these fields- what have you done with your certs?
