DEA number - how long did it take in reality?

I am a new PA-C, and applied for my DEA on Tuesday.  The website says it can take 4-6 weeks.  How long, in reality, did it take for you to get your DEA number?  I have a clean record, no complicating factors like previous licenses or anything. I'm in California.

 

Thanks!  I'm also taking the controlled substances class next week.

One week. The physical card took about two weeks to reach my house, but it was in my employer's computer system and printed on my scripts after about a week.

 

I'm in MN. I don't think the state particularly matters though, does it?

Yep.  One week for me when I got mine 13 months ago.

I just applied a few months ago.  I definitely wasn't 4-6 weeks.  I was surprised when it came in the mail a couple of weeks later.

I think the location does matter when you're applying for your initial DEA. It took forever to get mine because the local DEA office either lost it or it was just back-logged with others. I'm in Philly, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it.

 

I just renewed, and it was simply a matter of doing it online, so it was instantaneous
