Nurse Practitioners have more training than Physician Assistants, whose roles are also growing.” Since then, the AAPA has responded to WCBS as well as many individuals trying to get them to correct their story. Nurse Practitioners have more training than Physician Assistants, whose roles are also growing.” As a physician assistant I wanted to inform you this statement is inaccurate. The typical nurse practitioner master's degree has 35 credit hours of master's collegiate level courses and 500 hours of clinical exposure. The typical physician assistant master's degree has over 60 master's level collegiate courses with over 1000 hours of clinical exposure. Many NP schools also have completely online programs. As for the doctorate of nurse practitioner, this is optional and has no reflection of licensure at this time. The PA profession likes to believe we're all a team and help each other but while we're busy trying to make friends, other professions are ready to throw us under the bus at any chance they get.
