surgical pa Alternative Route to Surgical PA advice
Kmlkmbl posted a topic in Pre-PA General Discussion
Hello, I am looking for realistic advice on becoming a surgical PA First Assist. I viewed similar topics within this forum but wanted a more personalized response. This will probably be a long post . Here is a little about my background; I’m a 27yr old currently holding only my GED with a certification as a NA. I’ve worked as a CNA for 3years with 2.5 years working on a post surgical unit at my current hospital. I am transferring to sterile processing next month where I plan to work as I attend a CST program. I thought this would be a good field to work in since I will be work- 1 reply

Although I’m not a PA yet, I hope posting in this forum is fine, as I’m seeking info on existing surgical PA’s. So, what’s your specialty? I’m very interested in surgery, but I also would like to have a decent lifestyle outside of work. I’d also prefer to do more lower-risk surgeries versus something like trauma patients. The only PA I know personally specializes in urology. She works a normal schedule, is married, and has a child. I love the aspect of surgery, the idea of savings lives, and even working weekends when they need me - I hope I don’t give off the vibe that I don’t

I am a pre-PA and am interested to learn about compensation packages from those of you who are employed by university health systems, particularly the University of California and particularly those who practice in a surgical subspecialty. A basic search through several UC medical center websites gives me an idea as to what a first year graduate would earn hourly at each of these sites, but no additional information about CME, licensing, or whether quarterly reconciliation bonuses are part of the pay scheme. When I shadowed in the CVICU of one UC medical center, the PAs there were reported

Hello, Can anyone tell me where to access information on establishing a PA business in Florida. It will be a cash pay business so I really want to know what the legal requirements are for establishing and what license I need. I am also looking for information about requirements for home visits. Thanks.

Good luck to everyone who applied. Just turned in all my things yesterday. Random question: do they do rolling admissions? I couldn't find anything that stated whether they do or not specifically.

Wondering if there is a way to find out what a practice grosses. Administrator cries the blues and says SP does not even get a salary. BUT we have just hired 3 more NPs! We are one of the few practices taking obama care and new patients has jumped by the thousands!!! At my requested 1 year review, he thanked me for my hard work and ideas for the practice BUT there will be no raises for 2-3 years. Seeing about 28=30 patients in 7 hours, (no breaks). I believe the average reimbursement per patient is more than $85. He says all the "profit goes back into the practice. I suspect they are trying to

Hello! I'm set to start PA school this fall. I've been thinking a lot about the idea of specializing in a surgical field. Surgery has been something that has fascinated me ever since I shadowed a CT surgeon during my sophomore year of college and was able to observe an open heart surgery. My original intentions were to attend medical school and pursue the idea of becoming a surgeon, but I started a family my senior year of college. So, that delayed my entry into medical school and, eventually, became the deciding factor for me not to go to medical school to become an actual surgeon. I like

I am applying to UAB's surgical program and their supplemental asks to explain why it is "important" to me to attend their program. I don't know what angle to take as there are so many and whether or not to breeze over the same points I made in my PS? A few of the other supplementals I have to do ask the same question. Help.
