  1. Hi all! I am really struggling narrowing down the list of schools I want to apply to. I have already weeded out those that don't offer a masters, those where I do not fit the pre-requisites, and those that are too rural. I am not picky on location, but I would like to be somewhere suburban or urban. I also would like to be somewhere that the clinical rotations are not a very far drive (I am having trouble figuring this out because it is not explicitly listed on most schools' websites). I am mostly struggling to eliminate schools because I am worried about not getting in. I graduate this semester from a great school and will be applying as soon as the application is released. I am most concerned with my limited shadowing hours and limited service to under-represented populations. Here are my stats for applications: 3.63 GPA, Physiology major that has taken many upper-level biology courses, only alarming grades are C+ in Organic Chem 2 LAB and Gen Chem 2 LAB (My last 64 hour GPA is higher), only 18 shadowing hours (going to get 8 more hopefully before application), probably about 200 community service hrs (haven't fully calculated), 3-5 strong letters of rec lined up, 150 Verbal GRE, 157 Quant, 4.5 Writing, and roughly 3,000 clinical hours before matriculation. I am extremely worried about getting in, and this is making it difficult to narrow my options. I would like to apply to schools that I think I have a realistic chance of getting into. The following are the schools I am interested in. Does anyone have any advice on narrowing down my search? I have over 60 schools listed that I would consider applying for, but the following are my favorites: University of Utah, University of Colorado, Arcadia University, Rush University, Mercer University, Butler, LSU, Augsburg University, PCOM, DeSales University, Penn State, UT San Antonio, Elon, MCPHS, Emory, UT Southwestern, Baylor and Eastern Virginia Medical. Please please please any help or advice is welcome! I am so stressed!!
  2. I'm currently a 2nd year PA student and I'll graduate May 2018. i hear some of my classmates talking about applying for jobs already, but it seems too early. I've done some background research on different areas, openings, that kind of thing, but it seems early to actually apply for jobs. When should I start applying for jobs? Any advice is appreciated.

  4. I'm curious about the job hunt after graduation (I'll just be starting PA school next summer, but I've got my eye on the prize). I understand the benefit of networking, but others have also mentioned cold-calling. Has anyone here actually received a job offer as a result of a cold-call? At the office where I work, we're pretty good about screening calls and walk-in-reps so they don't waste our/the doctor's time. Also, for those of you who are cold-calling, or just want a feel for the medical entities in your area, the WebMD Little Blue Book might be a good resource...I saw this book in the clinic where I volunteer...it has a list of all the pharmacies and hospitals in a surrounding area, as well as a pretty comprehensive list of Dr.s by specialty. I think this would be a great resource when I do look for a job. http://www.tlbb.com/products_tlbb.aspx
  5. I am finding it a little difficult to sort through all the posts looking for who has been accepted to the class of 2015. That said, I thought why not start a post. I noticed a Facebook link for a 2015 class group, but not sure if anyone of the 2015 accepted are there, looks like the 2014 class. I will try to be better about checking the site. Send me a message if you need anything, I already live in Henderson. And see you in July at orientation. Bob Nydam
  6. hello, I'm currently doing my rotation in the ER right now, definitely somewhere I can see myself working (plus they hire a lot of new grads from my school). A PA I was working with told me one of the MDs told him he can come in on his day off to work with anesthesiology to practice intubation skills. That's something I have always wanted to learn how to do (beyond what we learned in ACLS). As students were you guys able to practice that skill or is that more learned on the job. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.. thanks
  7. I dont know how this process has been for others, but for me it has been an unsuccessful, disappointing, discouraging process. Unfortunately for me, I have narrowed my search to the Salt Lake City, UT area. My husband and I are moving there when I graduate in December - we want to live in the mountains and do it while we are young. I have applied to several jobs that I have seen posted on Utah specific job boards (hospital boards, utah assoc of pa board, ETC, but to NO AVAIL. Not even a phone call much less an interview. does UAB have a bad rep or something? What am I doing wrong... I can't exactly go knocking on doctors office doors until i get there. I dont know how to change my approach in my favor... Getting REALLY frustrated. :(:confused::eek:
