  1. I am applying for 2021-22 cycle. I graduated recently and don't have any formal work experience. I am tired of applying to jobs, cold-calling clinics and hospitals for jobs. I even offered to work for free. I am licensed (EKG, and phleb) then also I am getting rejected. Nobody wants to hire anymore, they don't even need free services. I am a person of color, I hope that is not the reason.
  2. Hi! Wanted to start a thread for those looking for PCE. It can be daunting and scary (especially with COVID) to find jobs. Did you have a cool PCE job? List it! I am a dietitian, but work with some great teammates who didn't need special courses after their undergrad to be: Physical Therapy Aide Patient Care Tech Chiropractic Assistant Rehab Aide Ophthalmology Assistant Behavioral Health Tech Still check with your programs to make sure they accept these as PCE! Remember to really know what part of the job descriptions count as patient care.
  3. Hi everyone, first time poster here. Currently, I am an EMT on an ALS rig, shadowing a PA, volunteering as a standby event EMS for the racetrack, concerts, parades, and 49ers, and helping out with a mobile clinic to serve the homeless. I'll be traveling to Haiti this summer with Project Medishare. (other volunteer work but won't bore you all.) So my problem is, I am taking classes now and doing two full days of clinical research at UCSF and then working 12 hours on the ALS rig. While also doing the above mentioned volunteer hours every weekend (or late weekday nights). I am over extending myself. Would dropping the research at UCSF hurt my application? I believe research is more geared toward Med school...correct me if I'm wrong. I do enjoy the research (and thinks it does set me apart as an applicant)... but I love the patient contact with EMT and my volunteering opportunities. And want to maintain my good GPA. Anything helps.
  4. Hi, I am a psychology student in my first year. After shadowing my aunt and her PAs, I have decided to pursue a career in that. I looked at a couple programs including USC's, Loma Linda's, Davis', Western Uni's, Northeastern's, and Cornell's. I'm aware that shadowing doesn't count for many of these programs (but it does in loma linda where my aunt works at their hospital). My mom works as a caregiver at an assisted living. Could I get my patient care hours there working as one? I have also started finding volunteer opportunities at hospitals and retirement homes nearby,
