  1. Hello everyone, I am currently in my third year as a biology undergraduate major at the City College of New York. I graduate next year and wanted to ask for opinions on whether or not I should apply to PA programs immediately after graduation. At the moment I have a 3.91 GPA, straight As in my science courses, have shadowed one PA for a few hours, and have over 200 hours volunteering at an ENT hospital. However, my plan after graduation is to work as an EMT to gain credible health care experience to put on my application. In your opinions, are my current credentials sufficient enough for PA programs to consider me as a serious candidate? Or should I take a gap year to focus on obtaining more experience to put on my application? If so, any advice or recommendations? Any responses are much appreciated. Thanks!
  2. Hello, I am seeking advice for a friend who unfortunately has waited until her last elligible year (year 6) and month (Dec) it seems to take her 1st PANRE. She seems to be under the impression that if she does not pass on this one attempt, she will have to return to PA school...therefore losing current position in an ICU since shell no longer have the -C. ( I don't believe our state of residence allows PAs to work without it). When researching the NCCPA and even this board I don't see any information about what would happen in a situation like this. I don't doubt that shell pass as she was towards the top of the class and typically does well on exams...but I also find it interesting that theres no info on this anywhere. Does anyone know?
  3. Hello there! My name is Evelyn Uttikur and I am currently a pre-PA student that resides in Queens. I have volunteered at a local hospital, however, I would greatly appreciate if there are any PAs that are willing to let me shadow them and to impart any advice or wisdom necessary. Please email me at evelynuttikur@gmail.com when you get the chance. Thank you!
  4. If anyone is willing to undertake a student for an out-of-state rotation this fall for family/peds/ob-gyn/plastics, any information or leads would be highly appreciated! I am currently at Barry University in Miami but am a NYC native and am looking to start making connections in the community as I will be making my return there upon my graduation. This would be for fall 2018. Thank you in advance!
  5. Any help would be great! Looking to start a new position in the ICU. Currently with 2 years of experience (non ICU) and am trying to get an idea of salary range. Anyone have any applicable anecdotes/offers they've gotten? Thanks!
  6. I will be graduating soon and will be moving to Manhattan this summer. Are there any hospitals in the area that hire new PA grads to work the ER? EMed would be my top choice but the sense that I am getting is that new grads are generally not hired in the Manhattan are to work in the ED. I also know that NYP Cornell has a residency program for EMed, maybe that's where they pool their new grads from? I would be interested in looking for a position rather than a residency! Anyone that moved from a different field into EMEd in Manhattan? Thanks!
  7. Hi All! I am working on completing my application to submit for the class starting January 2016. Is there anyone else in my boat??? :)

  9. Hello :) I am curious to know what your daily/weekly schedule is like during first semester in terms of hours in class per day, average number of exams per week, number of classes taken at a time, etc. For example, do you have class from 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday? How long is lunch break? Do you ever get off early for extra study time? Do you have exams every week and if so how many? Thanks so much!
  10. Hi, I'm about to be a new grad (no prior medical experience but with great academic record); am curious about the following (see questions below) all feedback/insight/comments/curse words are welcomed! 1. what I can really expect as starting salary in internal medicine? (nyc hospital based, three 12's, no call, some weekends, does it matter if it's nights vs days?) i haven't seen or heard of anything higher than 85k and i'm starting to wonder if i would be low-balling myself 2. how much can a new grad (again, with no prior medical experience) successfully negotiate with hospitals who advertise a new hire flat rate? 3. what's the typical yearly bonus most nyc hospitals (city and private) are offering? thanks in advance!
  11. Anyone here used Interfolio for their LOR's? Found this on the CASPA website" CASPA can accept your reference letters from Interfolio. HOWEVER, each of these letters MUST be accompanied by the CASPA Reference Request Form, which is signed and filled out by both the applicant and the reference who writes the letter. Without this form, your PA programs will consider your letters to be invalid." If anyone here used interfolio for LOR's, were you able to upload the request for digitally to accompany the letter or did you have to send it in seperately?
  12. Hi, My name is Kristin. I'm currently working on my master in NYC and I'm in my clinical rotations year. I'm very eager to start a career in Dermatology but I am having a hard time finding a rotation in Dermatology. My school says they have very few Derm connections and that my chances of getting a rotation in this field are slim. Therefore, I have taken it into my own hands to reach to whom ever I can in order to find a Dermatology preceptor. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much! Kristin
  13. Hi all! I've tried PA Shadow Online but to no avail in New York. I am looking to shadow a PA in any of the five boroughs of New York. If anyone has any information where I could find one, that would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! - Kimberly Dacayo
  14. Hello, I graduated 2009 and decided I would apply to PA schools a few months back. I have research experience with the Department of Energy, school research experience, TA experience, I am a certified EMT, and I have prior shadowing experience. If anyone can help me find something I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks!
  15. Hi, I am applying to PA programs for the 2012 cycle, and I am having a difficult time finding shadowing opportunities due to HIPPA and insurance related issues at various doctor's offices and hospitals. Are there any PAs that would be willing to let me shadow them? I am a strong applicant (3.9 GPA, have a Masters Degree) but my application is lacking in this area. I would greatly appreciate some help! Thank you, Merry
  16. Does anyone else wish books could just be a little bit cheaper? Spring semester ran me over $600. Just bought my summer ones - got all the used ones I could (two new editions coming out...) and just shelled out nearly $750! I love the internet and I feel like I got some good deals (14 books - only 3 new) but wow - I thought being a science major for undergrad was expensive! I am trying to remind myself it is only 3 semesters of books (and I hope that Fall semester we will re-use some?) but *ouch*.
