    Texas PA license

Hi everyone, I have begun the process of getting licensed in Texas. All of my documentation has been submitted and I received notice that I will be assigned an analyst but that this could take several weeks. I have read some of the older topics on this but I was wondering if anyone that has gone through the new licensure process more recently could tell me how long this whole ordeal might take. On the older threads people have been saying the TPAB only meets 4 times a year but I am seeing a schedule that looks like they meet every month. Is this something that changed in 2017? I had a pretty promising interview last Friday and I am starting to stress that my license won't be complete for several months. What does this mean if they make me an offer? Also, if you applied for a temporary license how long did that take to process? How does the Texas PA Board expect us to start paying off our loans?! Feeling frustrated...

    licenses and certifications

Hi! When inputing licenses into CASPA, it asks for the "issue date". I was wondering if I should put the date I first received the certification, or the date that I renewed my certification. I became a CNA in Oct. 2016, however I renewed my license in May of 2017, so technically the new issue date would be May I think. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
  3. Hi Everyone, I just graduated in July and passed my boards in July. I am really confused about the license process, I handed in the forums to the NCCPA but some of my classmates are talking about DEA and NPI number? What are the steps after passing boards for licensure, I sent my pass to NYS but not sure what other steps i need to be taking before starting a job. thanks!
  4. It's so frustrating to tell potential future employers that you may need to wait up to 5 months until gov Chris Christy gets off his bloated behind as the licensing process in NJ is slowww! Can you take a history, do the physical, write the note without signing it or making any orders in the interim? These are the same things that we do as students during clinical year. I went on the NJ state site, http://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/pa/Pages/regulations.aspx, but it says nothing about it. I have some friends of mine whom were scribes before school and will be paid as scribes and will learn the software until they receive the license in the mail. 1. Does anyone know if this is an ideal option? 2. What kind of ways have you had your future employer utilize you until you are credentialed?

How to check on license process

My wife graduated from her program and took the PANCE in December. After she found out that she passed the exam, in January, she applied for multiple jobs. Luckily, she was offered a job at a pediatrician's office in Charlotte, NC. She immediately applied for her license and took all the necessary steps to get her background check. That was 9 weeks ago! She hasn't received any updates from either the SBI or the medical board. In fact, after calling and emailing each one they simply send her to the opposite organization for answers. Obviously it is frustrating since the license is the only thing in the way of her starting her career. Is there any way to speed up this process or even just know for sure what stage her application is at? Any suggestions or help is much appreciated!
  6. Hi all! So I have been accepted for a program and start this Fall. I am engaged and we had always planned on having the wedding after I graduate, so we aren't trying to plan a wedding between school. My question is regarding how easy it is to change the name on my license after I take the PANCE. Would it be easier to go ahead and sign a marriage license and just have the ceremony in a couple of years? Anyone have any experience with this?
  7. Hi everyone, I am currently in my 3rd year of a 5-year BS/MS physician assistant program. I am doing well in my classes (3.882 GPA) and have completed all of my patient care and shadowing hours required to move on to the professional phase of the program. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago I received a disorderly conduct violation (not a misdemeanor, not a felony, just a summary offense). I had a lapse in judgement and was under the influence of marijuana when a friend was pulled over in his car. The officer said that he would let me off with a summary offense for disorderly conduct instead of something worse, and wrote on the ticket that I was creating "a hazardous or physically offensive condition by any act which serves no legitimate purpose". The ticket does not mention anything about marijuana or what specifically I was doing. I know that this does have the possibility of showing up on my criminal record. I am wondering what the impact of something like this would have on my chances of getting through rotations and getting licensed. I was told that a criminal background check may show my charge (disorderly conduct summary offense) but wouldn't show what I did to get charged. If that is the case and I was asked to explain my charge, how would the board or an employer actually know if I was telling the truth about what I did to receive my ticket? Looking for any advice/help! Thanks!

PA jobs in the St.Louis area

Hello all, Is anyone familiar with the St.louis job market? Missouri or Illinois side. I'm a new grad with a military medic background applying anywhere within an hour of the city and was wondering how the opportunities are. I grew up in St.Charles but haven't been back in a decade. There seems to be a handful of large hospital networks in the area but not many job postings. Any advice/tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Wisconsin Licensure

Hi all, how long does it take to get a Wisconsin PA license after getting your boards scores back? Weeks? Months? I'm taking my boards in mid-August and want to give potential employers a guage of when I will able to start practicing.
  10. Hi all! I'm a new grad with a job at a hospital. I was told by the recruiter that the department would pay my licensing fee. I know that many employers typically do this and I was just wondering how. Do you pay then get reimbursed or what? I've emailed the department administrator with no response and I really want to get my application in soon. My start date is 2 months from now! Due to how long it would take to get all the licensing and the credentialing process at the hospital. Just hoping that getting that taken care of sooner will let me start sooner. I'm also in NY if that would matter. Thanks!
  11. Does Emory have any December interview dates? I was offered an interview in January but I was already accepted to a program that starts in January.
  12. Does anyone know whether out-of-state students are required to obtain a new title and registration for their vehicles as well as driver's license while in school? It looks like most states require you to do so within 30 days of moving (no idea whether this applies to students). I would prefer to avoid the hassle, but I don't want to run into problems down the road if something happens and they realize I've been a resident for 24 months either. The timing for renewing my driver's license and registration line up perfectly with my program's start date. I figure I better address this now before I pay to renew both and subsequently learn I'll need to change them.

    PANCE/PANRE Tutor

Hello, I've been tutoring PA students now for 3 years. I have also been tutoring PA grads trying to pass the PANCE and the PANRE. For those students who have taken the PANCE and been unsuccessful, we find what area they were weak in, and begin with review of subject material and then on to test bank questions. For students about to take it for the first time, we pinpoint areas that they are weaker in by reviewing grades from their schools. I also look at the schools themselves, as some schools have weaker clinical rotations than others. I also tutor students still In PA school. As far as fees, I have somewhat of a sliding scale in that I first talk to the student on the phone to find what that person's financial situations are. I am a retired M.D., having practiced ER Trauma in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale and have taught at Med Schools , undergraduate schools, for 23 years. and am not doing this for money as much as the enjoyment teaching brings me. At Present I have 3 students from around the country. I use joinme.com on the internet. I have time for 1 more student. I live in the Boston/South Florida areas and you may call me to inquire if you wish. 617-816-8467 or email nowjohn2003@yahoo.com Feel free to visit my website at www.pancetutor.com Best Wishes, John
  14. Hey! I will be graduating PA school March 28th and taking the PANCE April 7, 2014. I hope to land a job shortly thereafter, as I will start applying for jobs in February. I was reading up on the NC licensure requirements and saw that it can take up to three months. I also understand I cannot do much besides shadowing until I get this license. Also, I don't believe NC issues temporary licenses for new grads. When should I start applying for NC licensure? Although passing the PANCE is an obvious requirement, do I have to wait to submit the application after I pass, or can I submit now and hope that by the time it gets reviewed I will have taken and passed the test. Thanks!
  15. Hey all, this is my first post, and I am hoping for some advice on a situation I am in. I am about to start my first job in orthopedic surgery and there is going to be a waiting period between the time I pass the PANCE and the time I am licensed. My future employer would like me to start as soon as possible however my contracted salary will not begin until I have my license. They are willing to pay me for my time prior to getting my license so I will be there to get into the groove of things and start learning. We do not have an agreed upon compensation yet and I was wondering what the norm is and how much I should ask to be compensated for my time prior to my contract salary starting. I will be working in a suburb of a large city. Cheers
  16. I am a new grad, and accepted a really good fam practice/peds offer in NC. I wanted to move and start work ASAP, but the board is telling me FOUR MONTHS for my license credentials. The office is telling me I can't start until then, but I was under the impression that I could be trained while waiting? Anyway, that is the impression they gave me in the interview. The doc seems urgent for me to start, emailing me everyday asking how things are going, but the practice administrator is not budging. I am kind of in limbo with everything else in my life right now (finances, living situation, boyfriend quit his job, etc) soo would it be out of line for me to ask them to give me an estimated date? Now, I am just waiting for the board.. and don't know if I need to get another job, move, etc. while waiting. And does it really truly take FOUR MONTHS?!?! Thanks for your help :) Jenni
  17. I've seen a few discussions about PA+EMT-P and PA+NP, but what the benefits of having both your PA-C and regular RN? The hospital I work at will pay for a 15 month non-nursing Bachelor's-to-BSN program, which is enticing for several reasons if I don't make it into a program this round. The 2 weakest parts of my application are my overall GPA (from my first time through school) and my limited amount of upper level science classes. This program would get me 55 hours of credits which would (assuming I do as well as I have in my prereqs) significantly boost my GPA. Also, as an RN, I could get a better paying job (right now I'm a PCT/EMT-B) while I take classes/wait for a program to start/PRN over holidays/etc. The down side is doing this could delay taking additional prereqs that would allow me to apply to other schools. So, I would ask you: 1) is it worth it to delay/limit my application? 2) what value would having an RN license afford me in combination with my PA-C 3) is it realistic to maintain both PA-C and RN? 4) How would an Adcom view this decision?
  18. I am a new grad and am about to send in all my paperwork for NC licensing. How long does it usually take in NC? I am hoping it will take a shorter time since it's past the "hump" of all the new grads in May/June. I have been hired by a hospital, and this is basically the "rate limiting" step. I want to start ASAP, and need to look at renting a house, but this is all going to depend on when all the paperwork goes through for my license. Anyone have any thoughts?
  19. http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bestjobs/2010/snapshots/2.htmlSo... I was checking out CNN during my lunch break and follow the link to see what I found...I don't agree totally with everything they said but it is nice to see some recognition from a big news source like this...I didn't see if this had been posted anywhere else... sorry if it's a repeat...
