  1. Does anyone work for or know of someone that works for Rush University Medical Center in Chicago? I am wondering what their emergency medicine advanced practice provider compensation model is like considering they are one of the only hospital institutions that don't use the EM staffing companies (TeamHealth, Envision, VEP, Vituity, etc.). How have you found their rates/benefits to compare to the staffing companies if you've worked for them previously?
  2. Hi everyone, I am hoping that someone will be able to point me in the direction of some hospitals or private practices that have preceptors who are willing to take PA students in the scottsdale, mesa, Glendale, chandler, Tempe, Gilbert, Phoenix area of Arizona. I am currently a first year PA student at Hofstra university in New York and we are getting ready for rotations this year. For my program, we are allowed to do two rotations out of state so I hoping to go to Arizona. However, we are responsible for finding the preceptor and giving the information to Hofstra. I will be staying in Scottsdale but I am willing to drive!! Any information will be helpful as I am not really sure where to begin looking or who to contact. Thank you SO much in advance!!! Hunter
  3. So I finally got a job at my dream hospital!! I am currently working there as a Patient Care Technician/ PCT. However, I will be leaving for PA school next year. I really want to return to this hospital and work as a PA! The problem is that getting a job at my hospital is super competitive. Is there a way for me to ensure/ increase my chances of getting a PA job in this facility in the future? (Also, what do you guys think of requesting a absense of leave instead of quitting? Can I be able to come back to the hospital to pursue a higher position?) Thanks in advance!
  4. Any derm PA's out there who work at Kaiser, Sutter, CA Skin Institute, Berman, or other larger corporations? I'm working in private practice now and have a lot of flexibility with my schedule which is nice, but not the kind of benefits and salary I think I could potentially have at the other. Could you share your experience as far as schedule, salary and/or benefits? And, if you've worked both private and/or corporate, which do you prefer and why? Thank you!
  5. Hi everyone, prospective PA here. I'm wondering if there are any PAs here that have practiced in oncology or were/are hospitalists that work closely with cancer patients. I find cancer to be a fascinating field that earns the respect of the most empathetic healthcare professionals. The nurses on the oncology unit where I work are outstanding in terms of quality of care. I haven't seen many oncological PAs in the hospital - only MDs or DOs. I want to hear about your experiences and what you do on the daily. What are your struggles on the job? What do you love about your job? How is oncology practice different from other specialties? Thanks in advance :)
  6. Hi, I have two interviews this week, one with a private urgent care clinic and one with a hospitalist general IM program at a teaching hospital. I am looking for some good interview questions I may not have thought of yet. Here's what I have so far. 1. New position or taking over an old position 2. Shift model 3. Call time and holiday/OT pay 4. Average # of patients per day 5. What does the patient population look like 6. How many providers work per shift 7. Support team 8. PTO, CME, benefits, malpractice coverage 9. Lab services 10. EMR system 11. Orientation time Am I missing anything? Let me know your questions and any advice you may have!
  7. I just heard from my new employer - a large hospital corporation - that HR thinks that it will take up to 90 days for me to be added to insurance payors after my credentialing paperwork is sent to them. I figured that as a new PA there would be fewer issues as far as the insurance was concerned because there are no disputes or claims, etc, against me. Also, the workplace does not accept Medicaid patients. How long does it take? Or how long did it take for you? I am concerned about being without a job over the holidays. I expected to start in November, but the doctor went on vacation before signing my SP forms. Ugh. Times are already financially tough in my household for my family.
