  1. Hi everyone! I knew that Duke's supplemental application would be a beast, but I was just curious if anyone had experience with the patient care and shadowing tabs? Here is what I am struggling with: - PATIENT CARE: can the description be the same as on my CASPA? And what exactly should I be putting for the agreeable and disagreeable aspects of my responsibilities? - Shadowing: can I put the same descriptions as my CASPA? Thanks guys! Best of luck to everyone!
  2. Hi PAs as Pre-PAs: I am fortunate enough to say that I have a choice of PA programs to choose from- Emory and Duke. I have visited both schools during the interview, and both are impressive. I’ll be moving with my husband, who will need to find a job wherever we end up, and it seems like Atlanta may have more opportunities for jobs in his field (landscape architecture). I’m thrilled but a bit stumped as to which to choose. I’d sincerely appreciate some insight from those that are familiar with the programs. What would be on your pro and con list? Thank you!
  3. Hello! As I come closer to making some tough decisions regarding programs, I am hoping to gather information and opinions from current students from the above programs or perhaps students who have interviewed at a combination of the above programs. More specifically, I am wanting to know if any students, interviewees, or alumni would be willing to share their personal experiences regarding 1) best and strongest aspects of the program 2) aspects that could be improved upon 3) level of support from faculty/program resources and 4) anything you were surprised about after matriculating into the program. I’d also like to know about any goofy things (location, parking, student perks) that you’d consider a plus or minus about the program. I have interviewed and been accepted into two of these programs and interview at the third fairly soon. I really love each for different reasons...proximity to spouse, culture of the area, resources, etc., but find that having interviewed with so many programs back-to-back, I wish I would have conversed with current students during the interview day more extensively (interview and travel fatigue... ) Anyhow, I would appreciate any and all comments. Thanks!
  4. Recent applicant accepted to multiple NC schools. Wondering if it is worthwhile to attend some of the private, high-ranked schools or if it makes more sense to favor in-state tuition, especially with sights set on primary care? Schools I applied to: Duke, Wake, Campbell, UNC, ECU Would appreciate insight into any of the above programs, and whether the private schools really do give you a leg up! Thank you!
  5. I know it is early in the cycle, but I figured I would start a thread! Who else is applying? I am hoping to submit by end of next week!
  6. Hey guys! Are there any Duke PA students that can tell me how quickly they heard back if they got in or not? I know they said two weeks, but the admissions coordinator said it might be earlier. I am just curious because I was accepted into another program and the deposit is due November 12th. It would be glorious to know one way or the other before I part with that money. Like someone said in another thread, my wallet doesn't exactly runneth over...
  7. I'm about to graduate from Boise State University with my BS in Health Sciences. I'm thinking about applying to PA school but needed advice on finding the right schools to apply for. I don't have the best cumulative GPA sitting at right around 3.3 and will probably finish right around the 3.4 range. Although some of my lower grades are from classes that I took in high school. Most of my pre requisites I got As with a few Bs and then one C in biochemistry. I haven't taken the GRE yet and will take it sometime next year since I won't be applying for at least another year. I also haven't taken general biology because I know that some programs don't require it. For Health Care Experience I have roughly 2,600 hours as a radiology tech assistant in both an outpatient and inpatient setting, 416 volunteer hours as a Community Health Worker at a free and charitable clinic, and then I recently took a job as the Community Health Coordinator at the same clinic where I will work for the next two years full time. I also have a lot of leadership experience in school, at church, and the community. My question is what are some schools that would value my experience in Community Health, having a mid to low GPA wouldn't be a huge deterrent, and I wouldn't have to go back and take general bio for? My dream schools are Duke and Baylor but I know that both of those programs are very competitive and I'm not exactly the most competitive applicant. I'm just looking for a few programs that I might have a shot at. Any and all advice is welcome! Thanks all!
  8. I have been invited to Interview on 26th Oct 2016. Email from Duke said to bring along sealed official transcripts. I have no problem getting local schools here to mail me or DUKE, sealed transcripts. But I have a foreign degree too, I do not know if it would be possible for my school to mail a sealed transcript to Duke on time or at all. There is no online portal to order another set of transcripts etc. But I do have a WES evaluation done on my transcript and degree. Does anybody know if I can take just WES evaluation report of degree and coursework which I can get in a sealed fashion? Also I can bring along my Original transcripts from school. But they are not sealed.
  9. Hey Guys and Girls, I am sure most of you current undergraduates have heard of some of the better PA programs around the nation. Many of you are going to produce competitive PA school applications in the process of hunting for schools. This question is more geared towards people who have been in PA school and experienced life on the other side of PA schooling. That being said, I think the answer is beneficial to most of us undergrads. We know about programs like Duke, Pacific, Emory, etc. Their qualifications are strict and their prestige is evident. However, on the chance that admission to these schools is at all plausible, is it worth going? Several factors go into that decision which are solely on an individual basis. But controlling for those individual variables, I want to know the career VALUE of attending a more well-known and intensive PA program vs. attending a PA school that is less renowned. Is the job market going to be any better for a PA who attended Duke for their graduate schooling vs. a PA who attended a city-based PA school? I can think of a big reason not to go to a grand PA school and that would be tuition. Is saving 10,000 a year worth attending a small, unknown PA school that had a breezy admissions process? Or that your qualifications far exceed?
  10. Hey guys, I have somewhat of a high quality problem: I've gotten into three schools of which I like Pacific U the most, mainly because of the didactic systems approach, the staff, and because the program starts in May. But here's the rub, I was offered an interview at Duke in Feb, so my question is, how much weight should I give to the ratings? Should I even spend the money going on the Duke interview if I really like the program at Pacific? Thanks in advance for the help!
