  1. Hello Everyone, Since is almost time to apply for this cycle, though I should start a discussion for this year. Anyone knows interview dates?
  2. Hello everyone! So, I am very thankful to have gotten into both SBU & Desales, but I am struggling to decide between them... Stony Brook is in-state for me and 15 mins away from home, so the tuition is significantly cheaper than DeSales’ ($53,000 as opposed to DeSales’ $79,000), and I wouldn't need to pay rent. I am struggling because even though SBU would be much cheaper overall, and has an excellent reputation and ranking, I just did not feel like I connected with the faculty there, and I wasn’t very excited after the interview. Even though the programs are both 24 months, SBU seemed more rigorous and fast-paced. The students at SBU also seemed a bit older, which makes me feel like I'd be the inexperienced one of the bunch. Another concern is that I don't really want to live at home. Living with my family would save me money, but it may also drive me crazy with the added stress of PA school ? I would most likely want to live on LI no matter what school I go to though, and so going to SBU may make it easier to get a job in the area once I graduate. SBU also ends in May, which I've heard is better for new PA grads in terms of job hunting. On the other hand, DeSales is a bit more expensive, but definitely not as expensive as some programs out there. It has clinical experiences during the didactic year, such as a student-run free clinic and shadowing that I would not have at SBU. I also really connected with the faculty there and could picture myself going there and being happy. DeSales also had a brand-new, huge simulation lab that the PA students get to use a lot. DeSales is also one of the only programs in that area, you get more one-on-one time during clinical rotations, whereas w/ SBU, you’re with other LI PA students and med students. Some stats: PANCE 5-yr pass rates: SBU-97%, DeSales-100% Class size: SBU-44, DeSales-80 Campus: SBU-within a hospital & affiliated w/ med school, DeSales- w/in an undergrad campus Both have full cadaver dissection labs Electives: both have 1 elective Start date: SBU- June, DeSales- August PBL classes: SBU- have only about 4 of these activities throughout didactic year, DeSales- small group class discussion twice every week throughout all of didactic Overall, the main things that would drive me to go to SBU are the low cost and the ranking. Otherwise, I like DeSales more. Some insight on this dilemma would be much appreciated!!
  3. Hi all, I recently got accepted into the direct PA program for 3 different schools: Desales, Thomas Jefferson and Stockton? In the PA field,, which school has the better brand name? Also, are there any alumuni out there from each school that can reach out to me directly with additional insight about their school? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  4. Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has interviewed with DeSales University yet? I will be interviewing with them next Wednesday (10/18) and was just curious to see if anyone had any insight as to how it was?
  5. Hi! I am currently in the process of trying to pick the right program for me in the Philadelphia area. There are many things I love about each of these three programs (DeSales, Arcadia, and TJU). I am looking for any current students, or really anyone, that has insight on any of these programs so I can really determine the best fit for me!
  6. Just looking for any insight. I am currently accepted into 3 PA programs and am having a hard time choosing between programs. Below are what my options look like. I am wondering what factors I should focus my attention towards. Currently, I am leaning toward SUNY Upstate because of the graduation rate (98.4) and the attrition rate (2.2%). Next is DeSales with a grad rate of (93 to 95%) and attrition rate (6.7%). Here is the table! 1. Should I weigh the attrition rate very strongly when choosing? I will be away from my fiancé as she completes her own PA program and have a feeling that I should choose a program that won’t dismiss me if I have a slight setback. 2. I graduate undergrad May 14th from New Mexico. Should my start date be a major factor? With Quinnipiac, I would have a short time to get my affairs in order. While with Desales, I have a few months. 3. SUNY tries to put all clinical rotations in 1 semi-rural facility. Each student has their own facility. Should this be looked at as a negative trait, or does 1 site allow me to do more around the facility? Would this lack of different sites hurt me from finding jobs across the nation? 4. I am a young African American male. Are there areas in these communities I should avoid? This is a silly question due to the fact that your personality determines who you are and how people treat you, but I am just keeping an open mind. I know this seems kind of ridiculous to ask on a forum and should be a personal choice, but I just want as many perspectives as possible from those who are familiar with the career. My goal is to simply become a great provider for my patients and not go crazy trying to make this choice. This community has helped me so much throughout my academic career. Any insight helps. Thank you! P.S. If you see any incorrect information on this table, feel free to correct me! No offense information about PA programs please. If there is a severely negative aspect, you can email me because I still want to hear it J
  7. Anyone interviewing at DeSales on July 15th? Also, people from the area, any hotel recommendations? Good luck to you all!
