  2. Hello, I am nearing the end of my first year in PA school on the east coast and would like to do a rotation in Seattle, WA. I don't know any physicians or PA's out that way. Does anyone know how I could go about finding a preceptor? Thanks
  3. Hi! I'm looking into PA schools to apply for in the next year. Having the option to choose where I want to go during the clinical year is very important, however I can't find a list of schools that offers this option. I realize there are schools that have more flexibility on their clinical year than others. What are some programs, or does somebody know a site that has a list, that offer their students to travel to different areas of the country during their clinical year, upon approval of a program? Thank you!!
  4. Hi, I am a current Physician Assistant student in Philadelphia PA who is interested in moving to Arizona after graduation (May 2013). I am hoping to make some contacts in Arizona (specifically the Phoenix area) to gain more information on what it is like working as a PA in the state. Additionally I am hoping to make contacts for my clinical year starting May 2012. I hope to do at least two clinical rotations in Arizona next year but will have to make the contacts within the hospitals on my own so any advice would be helpful. Thank you Kathryn
  5. I know that it is now a law for schools to provide clinical rotations. Yet, I grew up in a big medical community and am very interested in trying to get rotations in my home town. I will start school this summer. Does anyone know how open schools are to allowing you to set up your own clinical rotations? Personally, I would like to have all of my rotations in my home state if possible. Please let me know what you think!
  6. I am looking for preceptors in the Savannah, Ga/Fort Stewart area for my clinical rotations next year. My children and I live in NC right now while my husband is stationed in Savannah at HAAF. 8. Hey there! I'm a PA student at Touro University of Nevada, and I'm 2 weeks away from graduation :-) I have kept a blog throughout PA school, and my most recent entry offers a bunch of clinical rotation advice and even some great study charts that can be downloaded for use for studying end of rotation exams. Hope it helps someone! See the link below. https://reviewofsystems.wordpress.com/2015/10/18/clinical-year-reflection-advice-and-resources/
  9. Hi everyone, Just had a general question for those who are more knowledgeable in this matter than myself. I spoke to a friend in PA school who is currently doing their clinical rotations in a teaching hospital and often have to work an overnight 30 hour shift similar to residents at the hospital. I'm thinking of applying again, but wanted to get a straight answer on this before doing so. I ask because she stated that the medical students she works with are only allowed to work a maximum of 16 hour shifts per ACGME guidelines. So, it's actually a two part question. 1) Does anyone else have overnight call during their clinical rotations? If yes, how many hours straight are you scheduled for? 2) Does anyone know if PA clinical rotations fall under the ACGME guidelines for duty hours? If not ACGME, who regulates the number of hours you work? Any help or information is greatly appreciated, thank you.
  10. Hello! My name is Molly Fior, and I am currently a PA student at Saint Louis University. I am currently in the second phase of the didactic portion of SLU's program. I am going to be entering into our clinical phase/rotations in January, 2014. My husband recently accepted a job in Columbus. Unfortunately we don't have any contacts, friends or connections in the Columbus area. With the program's permission, I am allowed to complete certain clinical rotations out of town. I have been reaching out to different physicians, PAs and health care providers, but I have not yet had any success with finding clinical sites. It has been very frustrating and quite disheartening. I am allowed to set up the following 6 week rotations out of town: Family Medicine Pediatrics Surgery Women's Health/Psych (each 3 weeks in length) an elective of my choice (I am interested in orthopedics, gastrointestinal and intensive care medicine) evidence based medicine clerkship (I am really interested in Nephrology). A friend in the program suggest I reach out on the physician assistant forum to see if anyone might be able to help me. I would be so appreciative if anyone would have any suggestions or recommendations as to who I might be able to reach out to, or if there are any PAs from Columbus that would welcome a student from SLU. Thank you for taking the time to read my post; looking forward to the adventure and learning opportunities of the upcoming clinical year. Molly ennisme@slu.edu
  11. Just wondering what types of schedules EMTs on this forum work. Is it mostly nights, days, part time, full time?
  12. Hi, I finished my pre-requisites and part of my application package is to write resume. Im working as self employed and I have never work in health care field. I have been shadowing and volunteering physician and nurse practitioner in the medical clinic for about 2 months now, twice a week. I'm taking vitals, greeting patient and taking history of the patient. What should I write in the resume? Resume is to me written when you are applying for a job. What should I include in it in my case? thank you
  13. Is there any hope for someone who has attended and dropped out of multiple colleges over the past 8 years due to lack of direction and motivation? How much worse would it be if his/her overall gpa is 2.5 and science gpa is 2.0? Long story short, I had no idea what to do with my life and my grades fluctuated dramatically due to lack of motivation at times. I took a year off to figure out what I want in life, improve my study skills, and explore the medical field. Now I know, without doubt, that I want to be a PA, but I'm afraid I've already done too much damage with the constant dropping out and low gpa. Is there any hope? Thanks for your help.
  14. I would like to write a letter that would ask providers if they would be willing to be preceptors and allow me to complete a clinical rotation with them. Anybody have any recommendations on a basic template to use or what to say in the letter? Thank you!
