  1. Hi everyone! I am enrolled in the Biochem course online at Doane University starting May 25. I was wondering if those who have taken this course before recommend the digital version of the textbook or the paper version? If I buy the digital version, will it be missing certain materials I will need for the course (ie. CDs, access cards)? Thank you in advance!
  2. Anyone know if UC San Diego extension courses ( https://extension.ucsd.edu/courses-and-programs/biochemistry) count towards most PA school pre-requisites. I need to take Biochemistry and Genetics over the summer. First time applicant and these would be my two in-progress courses. UC San Diego's prices are pretty good from what I see. Unfortunately most schools that I e-mailed regarding pre-requisites say they can't provide info on if the course would satisfy their requirements at this time. Otherwise does anyone have suggestions for where I could take online classes that count
  3. Hi, Just signed up for this forum. I am currently a senior in my undergrad, I finish in the Summer 2021. My current cumulative gpa is 3.09 which is very low and for my science courses these are the grades I have made: General Chem 1 & 2: B Biology 1 : B Biology 2: C Orgo 1: C Orgo 2: F(first time), C (2nd time) Physics 1 & 2: A Genetics: B- Microbiology: D, I am going to retake. I am taking Biochemistry 1 this spring 2021 and other upper-division biology courses where I hope to make As in.
  4. Has anyone here taken any pre-req classes online through Doane University? Wondering about biochem, but haven't found much about it online. Also wondering if Doane's course is doable course for someone who hasn't taken orgo since 2015.
  5. I need some input on which online course I should take at Doane vs UNE? If you have complete biochem at either school, please share your experience: pros, cons, difficult, content, tests and etc. thanks to everyone in advance!
  6. Hey everyone! I was recently accepted into a program for fall of 2020. BIOCHEM was not a prerequisite, but I have been currently retaking the class in case I had to re apply. My acceptance is conditional based on having an up to date physical and that is It (I already submitted the physical). My question is, is It worth finishing up this class strong? Or should I stop putting effort into the class and relax until my program starts? I’m not sure what to do & don’t want to waste time studying if I do not have to! Thanks !!
  7. Hey all, I live on the west coast, specifically California. I have been looking into Doane University or UC Berkley to take classes and retake some prerequisites. I was wondering if any one from California has taken classes or anyone else has taken these classes and applied to pa schools in CA? Were those classes accepted? I have reached out to schools and they just say they accept classes from "regionally accredited schools" which I know Doane is, but is there a issue since these classes are online? I know it can be best to take classes in person, however I work a full time
  8. Has anyone taken Introduction to Biochemistry online through UC San Diego Extension? I am contemplating taking this course but there is no access to the syllabus before enrollment, so I have no idea what the course entails. I also need to submit documentation of the course to my job prior to enrollment for partial tuition reimbursement. I really do appreciate it if anyone can help! http://extension.ucsd.edu/studyarea/index.cfm?vAction=singleCourse&vCourse=BIOL-40145&vsacategoryid=356&vStudyAreaID=115 Does anyone recommend a different online Biochemistry course? I have ta
  9. I am entering into my third year of undergrad, and have completed the required courses to enroll in a biochemistry course. After looking at several PA programs, I noticed that many programs require biochemistry and most highly recommend it. At our school, we have the option of taking a nutritional biochemistry through our nutrition department and a biochemistry course through our biology department. I was wondering if taking the nutritional biochemsitry would be evaluated differently than the regular biochemistry and if this could cause problems later on when applying for schools. Thanks
  10. Is it necessary to take ochem and biochem lab as pre-req for PA school? At my college, ochem lab and biochem lab are separated course, you have to pass ochem lab in order to take biochem lab. I barely survived ochem and I'm not good at doing lab work at all so I don't know if i should take the lab. My science GPA is really low already so I do not want to bring it down. Thanks!
  11. Hey! I have read a few forums concerning my topic but have not found anything directly related, therefore I decided to start my own forum. So I went to community college my freshman year and transferred to a state school for my sophomore year (currently in first semester). The pre reqs I took at cc were general bio 1 and 2 with labs and inorganic chem 1 and 2 with labs. I have researched a few PA programs around me and out of the 9 that I plan on applying to only 1 requires Orgo 1. Therefore I am taking that now with lab and working really hard to get an A to show an upward trend since I got
  12. Hello everyone, I've been accepted into a program that does not require biochem but recommends you take it before starting the program. I have not taken the course but I am beginning to think I should. This question is primarily for practicing PAs and current PA students: Is biochem worth taking before starting PA school when considering the pros and cons below? UPDATE: I would only be able to take the lecture (3 credits) because the lab time does not work with my work schedule. Pros: I can go into PA school knowing I prepared to the best of my ability. 13. I see that organic isn't a major prereq for schools, but biochem is. For anyone who has taken two semesters of ochem and a semester of biochem: Is it possible to only take biochem having only taken ONE (the first) semester of ochem? I have to opportunity to skip ochem II but I'm not sure how much I'll need it in biochem. Thanks!
  14. Hi all. I need some advice from current PA students. I start PA school in the fall. Last week a great temporary job opportunity came my way that I really don't want to pass up, as it will be my last chance to make some decent money until 2015. The job would end a few weeks before classes begin. The problem is... I am in the middle of taking an Orgo & Biochem class which would interfere with the job. Since this class NOT a requirement for my PA program, I am very tempted to drop it and work instead. The only thing keeping me from dropping it, is if the Orgo/Biochem backg
