  1. I am thinking about applying into nursing program as my plan B, just in case I wont be selected for PA program. My question is, do you think the committee in interview would know about my new application; thinking it would raised a question "why did you apply for nursing? thx
  2. 2nd-year student here only 7-months til graduation. I am starting to study for the PANCE and would like to pass the first time. Any recommendations for study materials? What do you all think about using the SMARTY PANCE (http://smartypance.com/) website for preparation? Are there any recommended online courses or material you would recommend? Thank you in advance for any advice. Respectfully, A very worried PAS-2
  3. Hi Everyone. I have created a cheat sheet that I used while preparing for my PANRE. Included is a breakdown of the NCCPA Content Blueprint by main category (i.e cardiology, derm, pulmonary, etc. etc.) and individual subcategories/topics. Each subtopic is hyperlinked for a more in-depth review. You can print this cheat sheet out or download it as an interactive PDF to take notes and track your progress while you study. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. It is easy to get overwhelmed, but your exam will only cover the topics included in this checklist. Know these and you will be golden! http://smartypance.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/PANCE-AND-PANRE-CONTENT-BLUEPRINT-CHECKLIST.pdf PANCE AND PANRE BLUEPRINT CHECKLIST 2017.pdf
  4. Hey guys! I really need some guidance/advice/words of encouragement. Please help me out!! So I applied to 13 schools in mid-July and received 8 rejections so far and 0 interviews. Here are my stats: cGPA: 3.26 sGPA: 3.09 Patient Care Hours: 1600 as medical scribe Shadowing PA: 100+ hours ER and general surgery Volunteer: 500+ LOR: 3 MD, 1PA, 1 chem II professor Here are my grades for most of the pre-reqs: Gen chem I: C+ Gen chem II: A Bio I: B+ Bio II: C+ Microbio: B A&P I: A A&P II: B Ochem I: F and B+ Ochem II: C+ Biochem I: A When I applied this cycle, I knew that I was not going to get any interview due to my low cumulative and science GPA. So I planned ahead and applied to graduate school. I was accepted to a 10-course Biotechnology Master's program at Hopkins. I am not sure if I should pursue this program since its extremely expensive $40K, but I know if I do well, it will certainly help both my cumulative and science GPA. I am not sure what I should do. Should I pursue the Master's program and also re-take all of those classes for better grade? Please help! I also started working as a part-time PT tech in early October. I plan on taking the GRE this winter break, so I can apply again next cycle to schools that require the GRE. I don't have a back-up career plan and truly have no idea what else I'd want to be other than a PA. Thank you!!
  5. Hi Everyone! I'm a few months away from my PANCE and have heard great (and not so great) things about both Hippo and CME4Life. I would love any feedback from anybody who has experience (or a coupon code ;) ) with either.
  6. How to deal with excessive TEST ANXIETY I am a high stress / high anxiety test taker. I took and passed the PANRE in 8/2014. Here is some of the research I did to help deal with the stress. A study in the Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment compared thirty five university students with ADHD and one hundred and eighty five typical peers on measures of speed, test anxiety, reading comprehension, vocabulary, test taking skills and time management. Surprisingly there was no significant differences between students with and without ADHD outside test anxiety. There was significant differences with anxiety during, and perceptions of, test taking. It appears that students with ADHD perform similarly to peers on timed reading tests, although they perception of performance was less and worried significantly about their performance. The take home message is that if you suffer from test taking anxiety it is important not to label yourself, drop the negative thoughts. The label is a cognitive disorder and will do more harm than good. Strategies for overcoming test anxiety. 1. Be prepared i.e. Joe’s @PABoardReview.org or other accredited test prep. programs, PANCE/PANRE review books. 2. Practice test questions in duration and complexity that mimic the PANCE/PANRE 3. Meditation. The PA Program @Touro University Nevada teach their students Koru “Jon Kabat-Zinn” University of Mass Mindfulness for stress relief. 7. Joe was recently at Touro University in NV teaching a PANCE preparation course. One evening we conducted and recorded our first live question and answer webinar. The webinar was recorded and can be found at: http://www.paboardreview.org/categories/blog LIVE ONLINE with PA Board Review Many of the questions that are posed on this site were asked and answered. Joe gave some excellent insight. A few of the questions that were asked and answered are: 1. What should I do if I failed the PANCE? I went in with confidence, having studied a bunch. 2. Please walk me through a sample vignette question and how you would attack and answer the question. This is a sample criteria that was presented the NCCPA https://www.nccpa.net/PDFs/Nephrology%20Critiques.pdf 3. What questions would you study in order to prepare for the PANCE? 4. Do you think buying the NCCPA practice questions would be beneficial? If you are interested in attending our next live question and answer webinar in two weeks send me a message and I will get you an invite via gotomeeting. Wes
  8. This exam is touch screen ready with 120 questions from the official board review course. It is 100% free and makes a great review for both the PANCE and PANRE. There are in-question answers and hints which provide immediate feedback. It is great for review and studying. Take it for a spin and make sure to share if you like it. I am hoping to convert my 2 other exams to the same format, so any feedback would be great! You can take the exam online for free here: Interactive PANCE and PANRE Exam#3 Best of luck! Stephen
