  4. I am working as an MA for a PA currently. Occasionally, I do watch procedures she does, and basically 'shadow' her during my job. Could these times count towards shadowing hours for PA school? Thanks!
  5. I am entering my senior year as a Biology major and looking to apply for PA school during the next cycle. I have been having a hard time finding PA's to shadow and am posting here in the hopes of finding somebody. I am able to commute anywhere around the Denver or Boulder area. I work as a CNA, volunteer in an ED and am active in a genetics research lab. I have nearly all of my pre-reqs for PA school but am wanting to shadow a PA before applying during the next cycle. I know that shadowing would be an extremely valuable experience and therefore appreciate any direction on where to look!
  6. Hi! Im a Biology student at FIU, currently taking my pre reqs for PA school. I am finding it quite difficult to find a PA willing to let me shadow them. I have emailed some. A couple responded stating that they weren't allowed to as they work in a private practice. I know a couple of NPs that will let me shadow them, but of course my school requires a LOR from a PA. Anyway, my email is dbrow251@fiu.edu! If you know anyone or are a PA willing to let me shadow them, don't be afraid to message me. I will of course provide a copy of my resume! Thank you!
  7. Hello everyone, I am a 3rd year neuroscience, with a minor in psychology, Pre-PA student hoping to shadow a PA in any specialty! I am willing to travel to any part in South Florida. My email is mtejo2016@fau.edu
  8. Hello everyone, I am currently in my third year as a biology undergraduate major at the City College of New York. I graduate next year and wanted to ask for opinions on whether or not I should apply to PA programs immediately after graduation. At the moment I have a 3.91 GPA, straight As in my science courses, have shadowed one PA for a few hours, and have over 200 hours volunteering at an ENT hospital. However, my plan after graduation is to work as an EMT to gain credible health care experience to put on my application. In your opinions, are my current credentials sufficient enough for PA programs to consider me as a serious candidate? Or should I take a gap year to focus on obtaining more experience to put on my application? If so, any advice or recommendations? Any responses are much appreciated. Thanks!

  11. Hello All, I hope you are doing well. I was just curious if anyone has run into the same issue with shadowing that i am in currently. So, unfortunately I dont have the connections to other PAs like some people do, so this leads to having to go above and beyond to try to find PAs to shadow. I finally found one that is willing to take me on that doesn't currently have PA students with them (I go to Gannon University and I live close to Mercyhurst University, which both have PA programs), however, they want me to pay $50 per shadowing visit. I have never heard of anything like this before. Is this normal to pay $50/per shadow experience? Or is this just a UPMC thing. Is it worth it? Or should i keep trying to find other facilities that dont require such. - Zach

  16. Hello! I know this is a reach, swimming in a sea of several other posts desperate for experience shadowing a PA. I'm just another in Saint Petersburg, Florida looking to spend time with one for a week or two to solidify my career goals (though I'm sure medicine is my calling!). Please respond to this post if you wouldn't mind a 22 year old college student following you around! Thanks so much in advance!
  17. Hi everyone! My name is Rachel and I am an upcoming PA student starting in May 2019 at USF's PA program in Tampa, Fl. I got my clinical experience first working as an EMT for an ambulance company, but later switching to being a medical assistant for a private practice dermatology experience in Plant City, FL (about 30 min from Tampa). I gained such valuable knowledge from both jobs! I currently still work for the derm practice, but will be leaving when I attend PA school. I just wanted to reach out to the pre-PA community because I'm sure there are a number of you who are looking to get clinical experience, and I wanted to see about giving the opportunity to someone who could gain valuable experience from this position. and FYI you do not need a medical license for this job, they do on the job training. I work here with the doctor as well as the PA. If you're interested, let me know and I'm happy to answer any questions and put you in contact with my office manager. :) Rachel

  20. I am a pre-pa student looking for any shadowing opportunities in Las Vegas! Any field/specialization is good, I have some experience shadowing medical students in a family clinic, but that's it as far as shadowing goes. My schedule is flexible and I'll do my best to accommodate to your time/availability.
  21. I'm having a hard time finding PAs to shadow, I was only able to one so far. I'm a Bio B.S grad of UAlbany and currently work as a PCT at Albany Med. I have tried both AMC and SPH but no luck. I have called a lot of clinics not affiliated with AMC or SPH too. (AMC called me back and told me to stop cold calling their clinics ? and no luck with SPH) and they have either given me the run around or told me "no" due to HIIPPA or that their PAs don't want the extra responsibility of a shadow. Does anyone one know a PA in the area. It seems that the only way to convince a PA for shadow is to have some connections. Cold calling is not working. I would really appreciate any advice!! Feel free to DM me.
  22. I'm looking to shadow a PA in Northeast Ohio that would be willing to also write me a recommendation afterwards. I'm feeling like I'm between a rock and a hard place because my CAPSA is verified, but I have been having the hardest time with this requirement. I applied to shadow through the local hospital and have not gotten a response and they don't allow you to reach out to the PAs personally. I know what a PA does, i've been seeing PAs since I was 15. This is just the technicality I need to complete. Help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance
  23. Hello! Im a pre-PA student in North Carolina. Does anyone know of any PA shadowing opportunities in the Charlotte area? Thank you!
  24. Hello, I am a student doing my bachelor's and was wondering if there are any PA in Long Island -preferably in Northwell or Winthrop hospital - that are willing to take a shadow on. I am trying to get my shadowing hours complete before starting CASPA. Thank You!
  25. Hi everyone! I submitted my CASPA in the middle of may and it was verified around may 20th I believe, but in the past few weeks after submitting I was able to successfully get in contact with multiple PAs and begin shadowing them. I already updated my CASPA once to reflect my first shadowing position, but now I have started shadowing another PA and I want to add that to my CASPA experiences as well. Will it look bad to schools that I am updating my application so often or will it make any difference? I just dont want it to come off as looking bad on their end but I want to add in my experiences to show what I have been doing. Thanks so much!
