  1. Hello, I am nearing the end of my first year in PA school on the east coast and would like to do a rotation in Seattle, WA. I don't know any physicians or PA's out that way. Does anyone know how I could go about finding a preceptor? Thanks
  2. Hello, Currently in didactic year of and looking ahead in clinical year. I am looking for preceptors in the Seattle area in any speciality of medicine for the upcoming academic year August 2018 - November 2019. Do any current students, previous students, current preceptors, or currently practicing PA’s have any tips or suggestions for finding a preceptor in the Seattle area? Or are you willing to precept? Anything would be helpful. Thanks!

  5. Hello PA world! My name is Tara Pianko and I currently live in Seattle, Washington. I am desperately looking to find a PA to shadow or get some advice about becoming a PA. I am willing to travel near or far to gain such experience and would appreciate it more than you know! A little more about me - I am 26 and currently working with the FDA as an Investigator primarily focusing on cross-contamination risks that could affect public health through food and a variety of other commodities. I have always had the desire to work in a clinical environment and fell in love with the idea of the PA profession but would love to solidify this idea into fact. I graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology and graduated from Georgetown University with a Master's degree in Biohazardous Threat Agents (Bioterrorism) & Emerging Infectious Diseases. I have had about 200 hours of shadowing/experience in a hospital in Tanzania, which confirmed that I would love to work in a clinical environment with patients indefinitely. I would appreciate any assistance in gaining more shadowing experience or mentorship as I continue down the path in becoming a PA! Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and Happy New Year! -Tara Pianko
  6. My wife and I are planning on moving to Seattle this fall. We are both PAs, I work in orthopedics and my wife does urogynecology. We just submitted our applications for WA state license. Roughly how long does it take to get a license? We both have 4 years experience and based on current job postings I was thinking our salary would roughly be $115K, is this within reason for a PA with 4 years experience in Seattle? I currently work as an inpatient Ortho PA at a teaching hospital and would prefer a similar position. Are there any hospitals other than UW that may have a similar position? I am open to working in a clinic but O.R. time is a must and I am not interested in taking call. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks
  7. Felt it would be prudent to make a separate thread for those wanting to meet up before the interview, share anxious thoughts, offer help to those coming from out-of-town on place to stay (if you haven't found one already), transport, etc. @fluidworks I'd definitely like to meet up before the big day. For pubs, the College Inn, in the U-District, has big tables and is in walking distance of the hotels suggested in the mailing info. There are also many fairly cheap restaurants around the area. One week!
  8. Hi All, I am looking to apply to UW for the PA program and I see that there are a few different campuses to choose from. The 2 that I am looking at are the Tacoma campus and the Seattle Campus. I will be hopefully moving to the area to be at Fort Lewis (JBLM) due to military obligations so I was wondering which campus is better or what are the pros and cons of each. One thing that has me concerned about the Tacoma campus is the 86% PANCE pass rate in 2015 which is well below national average but Seattle has a 98% PANCE pass rate which is well above. One thing that concerns me about the Seattle Campus is traffic. I would be living approximatley in the middle of both campuses in between Kent and Renton so I am trying to figure out which campus would be the better option. Any current students or any locals that can chime in your help would be greatly appreciated!
  9. I am looking for some shadowing opportunities. I am in the midst of applying to PA Schools and would love to experience the various fields. I have used PAshadowonline.com with no success, given that only one PA is currently listed but not available. Are there additional resources/Professionals willing to take on a Pre-PA student? If there is anyone willing to be a mentor of sorts, I would enjoy hearing from you. I love working with people, I am extremely responsible and have lots of medical and volunteer experience. Thank you for your time.
  10. Hello, My name is Phil, and I am scheduled for an interview for the MEDEX Seattle Masters program on 11/19. If anyone is in the Seattle area and would like to meet up to grab coffee and a small bite to eat a week/couple days in advance, I am putting the invitation out for 2:00 pm on Saturday November 14th, at Cafe Solstice (4116 University Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105.) Cafe Solstice is two blocks west of the UW Seattle campus. Meeting other candidates will make the morning, heading into the interview, much easier knowing a few people than it will on your own. I'm looking forward to meeting all who are applying, interviewing, or are even current students. This is not meant to be for masters applicants only. Please join if you are applying to any campus or degree program. I look forward to meeting any and all of you. Good Luck, Phil Brown
  11. It's easy to find a MD at the UW to contact for shadowing - pick a specialty and there's a doc and an email address. However, I have been unable to find a single PA on the uwmedicine website. Where does one go to find a PA to shadow at the UW? Bigger question: are there any PAs with academic specialties (research + patient care) outside the MEDEX faculty? Any suggestions on finding shadowing opportunities at UW would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  12. I moved to a great new job, the allergies suck in this area. I want to write a script to myself for a hepa air filter, and use my FSA account. Should I just make an appt (busy schedule) with another provider or just do for myself what I know I need. Thoughts????
  13. I'm looking for a PA to shadow in the general Seattle area. I'd prefer the Woodinville area or something in the north sound or eastside, but would be happy with anything in the general Puget Sound area. Any help is greatly appreciated!
  14. I am trying to get rotations in the Seattle area and in Utah for the summer. Haven't had much success so far. Anybody know of any willing preceptors? Thanks!
