  1. Good Morning fellow veterans, Here is some information I received regarding the VA scholarship for 2020. The application will open again around March 2020. The list of specific programs of study that HPSP will target in 2020 are Nursing (All Levels), Pharmacy, Diagnostic Radiological Technicians, Physician Assistants, and Medical Technologists. To qualify for this Scholarship Program, you must be a U.S. citizen, unconditionally accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled in a program of study leading to a degree as determined by the Scholarship Program office just prior to t
  2. Hi all! Starting this thread because I see some inquiries for the 2019 cycle being tacked on to the 2018 thread so I thought I'd start a new one. I believe applications for those of us starting our programs this year won't open until March and be due in May, but correct me if I'm wrong. Let's do this!! Signed, NHSC hopeful starting her program in AZ in August 2019

  4. To my veteran PAs: I recently received an email about the Student to Service HRSA scholarship that states NPs and Certified Midwives are now eligible disciplines for the upcoming scholarship cycle. The reason for the addition is the bolster primary care and obgyn providers in underserved and rural areas. Makes sense to me... however to my surprise PAs are not included in this scholarship opportunity. Is this an issue that the AAPA would take up? If not, who can I write about this issue other than the HRSA?

  6. Hello prospective NHSC scholars! I noticed the scholarship application has officially opened. Looks like the deadline is May 10th. Just thought I'd get an official thread going so we can all chat about the application process and share any updates any of us may potentially get! Fingers crossed, good luck everyone!
  7. So, you have been accepted to HSCP. Yay! Congrats! Go celebrate (reasonably of course). Then what to do, Here is what I have been learning over the course of 3 months of not getting paid. I fixed most of the issues now, so hoping to start getting paid the next pay period. Step 1. Get your Military ID made, ASAP. Step 2. Set up mypay account. It's a pain, however once you have your military ID, do yourself a favor and invest in a CAC card reader. You will be able to set up you mypay yourself. Step 3. Update Bank info on mypay. Very Important. (For some reason PSD still hasn't gotten
  8. Hey everyone, I'm in the process of starting my essays for this year's NHSC scholarship and was wondering if anyone had advice on how they approached the essays. My specific questions are highlighted below. 1) How specific were you in outlining your future career plans for the essay on the NHSC mission? Did you list HPSA sites and/or non-profit organizations you were interested in affiliating with? 2) How did you approach the essay regarding your commitment to working in primary care? Did you take a narrative approach regarding life events or circumstances that led you to pursu
  9. Before I begin, yes I am still just a senior in high school, and yes I know that my goals can change. However, this is what I want as of now, and because it's extremely important to prepare for what I want my future to be, even though it may change, I need to make plans. So PLEASE don't advise me on going to med school or doing something else, it's not what I'm asking for. Now, I've been doing my own research, but I would also love different personal perspectives. As of now, I plan to stay within five hours (maybe more if necessary) away from southern-ish New York because I don't hav

    VA HPSP

Hey all. Figured I'd post this since there are so many people messaging me and creating threads on the military HPSP (which appears to be no longer available to PAs). It appears that the VA is also creating an HPSP program that will be available to PAs and will begin to receive applications in January of 2016. Here's an excerpt from the VA website: In all honesty, I would say that this scholarship program is actually better than the military scholarship program for most people, especially if you have a family and are not prior enlisted, due to the lack of deployments and de
  11. Hello! I am a 23 year old Mexican-American female who is starting the Physician Assistant Program at Philadelphia University in July 2017. 13. Hi everyone, I was recently accepted to the program and was wondering if anyone knows how the application for the SDS works. From what heard from the interview session, we were told that we would have to apply. When would we find out if we were granted one? What is the application like? Thanks!
  14. Hello everyone, A little info about me: I've been working as a RN for a few years in the NICU and prior was in the I.T. field working for the government and the military. I'll be starting PA school this Fall 2016 (September) and I have submitted my HPSP packet for the Air Force complete and sent this month (August). I've read in the past that the HPSP cycle doesn't start till October, is this still correct? Also, based on the timeframe from previous post is it safe to say that the results from the board, depending on available slots for the scholarship, should be a month or two un
  15. Would anyone who has paid for PA school on an Air Force scholarship be able to talk a bit about their experience with that? I have only been accepted at one school so far, which will leave me graduating with about ~160K of debt. If this ends up being the only school I'm accepted to I'm still going to attend. I know it isn't smart to get into this much debt on a PA salary, but I don't want to wait around another year and go through another application cycle. Specific Questions: How long before starting PA school must one start the application process for this scholarship? Does t

  20. Hello Everyone, I was recently accepted into PA school in California. I am from Connecticut and I am still currently residing in CT with plans to move to California in August. I will be completing my didactic year in Cali and then I will complete all my Clinical rotations in Hawaii. I desire to work in primary care upon completion of my schooling in the state of Hawaii. I am trying to find scholarships to help me cover the costs of school, moving and cost of living in general. I will be unable to work while in the program and do not have much savings. I want to take out mi
  21. Despite the darkness that exists in the shadows of this world, it is through our passion and our sense of purpose that we are able to truly grasp the beauty that exists in the light. My first experience with seeing this spark of passion came in the 7th grade, when I began extreme rollerblading. What first started out as a simple way to kill time after school and hang out with my friends, quickly morphed into a love like none I had experienced before; I ate, drank and slept rollerblading. The strength of my love for this sport provided me with an opportunity to see, with my own eyes, the reward
