  1. Hi! I am a student planning to apply for CASPA next year and all I need is to shadow physician assistant. It's been difficult for me to find someone at the facility I am working at. I did found one but the waiting is long and I do not know when she can have me shadow her. I hope to find someone to shadow in Houston, TX. I don't plan to disturb the PA with many questions because I understand how busy it must be. I would like to spend time observing the PA. Thank you in advance!
  2. Hello! I'm a 21 year old EMT currently working in 911 response (~3 years experience at this point) and studying at the University of Houston (double B.A. in Philosophy and History). I'm interested in shadowing a PA who works in emergency medicine, preferably in the medical center. Right now, I'm trying to determine whether PA school is the correct route for me, or whether I am more suited to the MD/DO route.   3. We are looking for a candidate that can add to a growing practice in an established office. The office is structured as a cash model practice and does not take insurance. We see patients for wellness and primary care issues. We treat the patients through bloodwork and a combination of medication/supplements. This is a great opportunity for a provider with a few years of experience that would like to have a patient base of people who care for their health and therefore are compliant in their plan of care. We also utilize a direct primary care model where the patients do not have to worry about insurance coverages. For Primary Care and Wellness services, we focus on utilizing a functional medicine approach. An ideal candidate would be someone who is willing to learn and be trained in this field of medicine. For the short term – until the provider has a full load of patients, there will be time that is required in the OR assisting the supervising physician in surgery. More will be discussed during the interview. The Physician Assistant, under the supervision of collaborating Physician, assumes multiple clinical functions involved with the care of patients, which fall under his/her scope of licensure and training. The Physician Assistant will perform detailed histories and physical exams, review patients medical records, order laboratories studies, radiological and diagnostic studies appropriate to patient's complaint, age, sex, race and physical condition. Ordering and implementation of diagnosis and development of treatment plan, prescribing medications and patient follow-ups. The Physician Assistant will need to be proficient in use of a cloud based EMR system. We look forward to speaking with you about a possible fit with our office.   4. Has anyone ever done an elective rotation at MD Anderson? I am very interested in applying but so far all of the housing options are more than $1000 a month (plus the rent I already pay for my apartment by my school). I am trying to weigh the price vs the benefits and experiences that I could gain at MD Anderson. Any advice would be appreciated!
  5. Hello All; I am currently a "3rd year" PA student (our program offers an extra 9 months of Advance Clinical Practice training) and I anticipate graduating in March 2016. In brief, my experience includes working approximately 40/wk in four different Level 1 and Level 2 emergency departments throughout the greater Chicago metro area, I have acquired over 1500 hours of direct patient care experience working in both the fast track and main emergency room. I looking to relocate to either Houston or San Antonio. Of course for the right offer, I am open to other areas as well. So far I have been scouting potential opportunities on various job sites like indeed.com, doccafe.com and PAjobsite.com, not to mention several conversation with recruiters. I was wondering, if there is anyone else who as a new grad got there start in the ER and if so perhaps you can share some pointers with me? Thanks!

  7. The Residency Program in Geriatric Medicine for Physician Assistants at the Michael E DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas is currently accepting applications. The residency will prepare you to truly be part of a healthcare team, where your skills and professionalism are respected and enhanced. This residency is the first of its kind, focused on care of the older patient. The program is in collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine, which is consistently ranked as one of the top 10 PA programs in the country. There is an engaging and rewarding schedule of rotations and electives, including cardiology, endocrinology, HIV/AIDS, palliative care, wound care and others. While all of the clinical experiences are at the Houston VA and affiliated outpatient clinics, the residents are in the Texas Medical Center, with all that it has to offer.   12. I have a TON of questions regarding HCE Pre-PA. My background: I am [21 years old], still an undergrad majoring in Biology. Projected graduation summer 2014. GPA and pre-reqs are all in good standing. No hands on volunteering/HCE or shadowing. The schools I am planning on applying to are BCM and UTMB-Galveston. Needing help on: I need advice as to which is the best way to go about getting the experience. I know I need it, and I would LOVE to get it. I just don't know the best way to do it. I live in Tomball, TX and cannot find a PA who will let me shadow them. I have found NP'S but I highly doubt that would work. Does anyone have any shadowing resources or hands-on volunteering opportunities in the N.W. HOUSTON/THE WOODLANDS area? Should I seek out a CNA/MA/Phlebotomy certification and work as one of those for a year or two? IF so, which one is better? [by better I mean the one that best transitions into becoming a PA/has quite a lot of opportunity] Time is an issue. I don't want to put my bachelor's degree on hold to go through a two year program to get certified. Any advice or shared personal experiences are appreciated. I am at square one and would really like HELP. Thank you!

  14. Hello! My name is Raymond Kwan and I'm about to graduate from Texas A&M College Station this upcoming May. I'm planning to apply to PA school and would love to find shadowing opportunities with PA's in the HOUSTON or COLLEGE STATION area. As i still do have classes, i'm more than willing to work around them to find a schedule that would best fit you. as well, i have monday and friday's off so i would be more than willing to spend those 4 day weekends learning and experiencing the PA work field. please let me know if you'd be willing to consider taking me on as a shadow.
