  1. I posted on an old thread so I decided to start a new thread. For the 2018 accepted applicants I have started a FB page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/637350243068976/ I also wanted to see what plans people have for housing. I am currently finishing AA studies, and Technical writing. Also I wanted to see if I could get a current student to join the 2018 group if they don't mind answering questions that might arise. Thanks. :)

  5. This might seem silly, but I'm pretty stressed out and discouraged. I figured there was no harm in asking for advice from those with more experience. I graduated in May, passed PANCE, obtained state licensure and began the job hunt. Yes, I was late to the party, I'm aware. I was painfully naive about how challening the search would be, particularly if I restricted it to one locale. Unfortunately, I've found out the hard way that the "specialty, location, salary; pick two" mantra frequently used on this forum is, at least in some parts of the country, probably more accurately stated as "one". The first thing I did was contact my "dream job", knowing they weren't hiring, but hoping to be contacted about openings in the future after gaining experience elsewhere. I got the generic "no positions currently available, will hold your resume blah blah" and began an aggressive job search with no success so far. Fast forward to a few weeks ago when Apple released iOS8. Since upgrading my iPhone, there have been multiple instances when I received a VM from someone without ever getting a call, and with no evidence of a missed call. So the fact the person left a VM was the only way I knew they contacted me. This happened again today (4pm) when I saw a VM (left at 845am) by an unfamiliar number with no missed call. It was the staffing manager from the "dream job" group, seeing if I'd be interested in a position that opened. I was crushed. I called back, it rang until VM, and I left a brief msg apologizing for being unavailable and requesting another call at any time. Not sure if they left for the day, didn't want to deal with it at 4pm on Friday, or - my biggest fear - had already filled X number of interview slots from however many people they made contact with. It's a rather large group with a high amount of interest from prospective employees. The point of my novella-- I'm trying to decide whether to send an e-mail this weekend and reiterate my desire to speak with them, or if that borders on redundant and annoying.. or just pointless, if it'll likely be seen at the same time as the VM. I know these people have lives, but do you think they receive work e-mail on their phone and would therefore get it sooner and possibly keep me in mind? And, if so, should I explain my phone issue? Thanks guys. :/

  7. I am in the process of starting a Pre-PA group in Fairbanks. Here are a few of my ideas for the group: Currently, I am trying to get list of PAs that have no problem letting us shadow them. Also, I'm trying to find a few different PAs that would do a question and answer session for us. I know of 3 PAs that recently graduated from MEDEX and hoping they will be willing to talk. Maybe we could even go to anchorage when MEDEX has information sessions? Once we get a good group together I think it will be valuable for us to do mock surveys and look over each others personal statement giving advice. I have been also complying a list of places to volunteer around town. In the winter I would love to hold a fundraiser for some kind of cancer awareness or maybe just help a group. It's always more fun volunteering with a group of people instead of by yourself. This group is not just for the MEDEX program, its for any one looking at the possibility of becoming a PA or pursuing the idea. If anyone wants to join I have started a facebook page. Again, I have just started this and I need to add some documents. I will probably make the group closed so we can feel comfortable posting questions without everyone seeing our comments. Copy and Paste :) https://www.facebook.com/UafPhysicianAssistant Currently its labeled UAF Pre-Physician Assistant, but its not only for UAF, its Fairbanks. -Kelly
  8. Hey everyone! Congrats to you all, hope you are as excited as I am for May! I just wanted to create this thread to post the link to the Facebook group that I know can be kind of difficult to find via Search. http://www.facebook.com/groups/121380674692683/ Looking forward to meeting you all :) Caitlin
  9. Hello~ Congratulations to those who have been accepted! I just wanted to start to help some of us meet eachother, figure out where to live, and anything else. I will be starting at the main campus in May (conditionally - I have to complete a class). I am coming from the Philadelphia area. I'm very excited to start this next "chapter" in my life. Does anyone know if there is a facebook page that has been started? I would like to start one if not. Good luck to those of you who are still waiting to hear or on the waitlist! Sarah
  10. There were two different Facebook groups created. We decided to consolidate the two into whichever group was larger. So far this one seems to be bigger: http://www.facebook.com/groups/298318286845726/ . This group was created for all current and incoming students to join.
  11. It may be better to do this on the facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/groups/223134977774073/), so we can get to know each other a little better, but I figured that we could start on here ... Maybe just put a little blurb about who you are, likes/dislikes, what you are looking for in a roommate, etc. Name: Julia Karnoski Age: 23 Hometown: All over Southern California Undergrad: Loyola Marymount University - Natural Science Hobbies: Hot yoga, running, beach volleyball, snowboarding/skiing, boating, cooking, hanging out, I like to entertain and have people over ... Drink? Yes. Smoke? No. Pets? No. Favorite Movies: Wedding Crashers, Old School, Ocean's Eleven, Moneyball, Bridesmaids was pretty funny, Definitely Maybe Music: Country, Hip Hop/Rap, Reggae, Alternative, Oldies ... a little bit of everything Where do you want to live: San Lagos Apartments (2 or 3 bedroom) Your perfect roommate(s): I would love to live with someone who is down to earth, easy-going, and fun. I would prefer someone who likes having people over, and someone who does not have pets. My priority will obviously be school, but I would like to enjoy myself during whatever free time we will have... Post your profile if you're looking for a roommate! And join the facebook group!
