  1. Hi everyone, I am a physician assistant student interested in current legislation issues concerning PA practice in the state of Texas. If anyone has any links to resources regarding this topic I would be very appreciative. I am looking for both current legislation issues concerning PAs as well as legislation that has not passed but that would improve a PAs' scope of practice in the state of Texas. Thank you!
  2. I just received a letter (snail mail) today informing me that I am on the alternate list. Best wishes to everyone
  3. I interviewed on Friday, Dec 6th and received an email today around 2pm notifying me of my acceptance! Best of luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear back.
  4. Just wanted to throw it in that my GRE scores were very similar to yours and I still received my acceptance call last week after interviewing in Sept. My GRE was a 157 on Verbal, 150 on Quant and I'm not even going to mention my written (not great, lol). I think you'll be just fine if all other areas are strong! Best of luck :) This may be too late but from what I understood the earlier you interview the better because it is rolling admissions and you will be competing for less seats the later you interview in the process! Best of luck to you as well!
  5. I just cancelled my interview at ATSU so hopefully that will give someone else a good shot at interview/acceptance! Best of luck to everyone!
  6. I just received my accepted student checklist as well! I interviewed on Sept. 10th. Congratulations to those accepted and best of luck to everyone!
  7. Anyone else flying in for the September 10th interview? I'm flying in from Texas and looking for cheap places to stay close to campus or maybe even just a couch to crash on the night before. As some of you know this interview process can be pricey. Thanks and best of luck to everyone interviewing/applying this cycle!
  8. Received an invitation to interview this morning. Sent out my application mid-July and scheduled to interview Sept. 10th.
  9. I'm moving to Tacoma, WA next week and I am looking for a PA in the area that would be open to being shadowed. My schedule is flexible. Please private message me if you know of any opportunities and thank you!
  10. Interviewed on Nov. 17th and received the email today that I was placed on Committee Hold. Best of luck to the December interviews this weekend and those of us still waiting to hear back!
  11. Good luck to the upcoming interviewees! Anyone from the November interview hear back yet?
  12. @Icarlson3. Congratulations on the acceptance! Just wanted to ask if you ever received a call or did you just receive the acceptance letter in the mail?
  13. Throwing it out there one more time before I make plans as I intend to book everything this weekend. I'm flying in from Texas for the November 17th interview. Anyone interested in sharing a hotel or renting a car and does anyone have recommendations for affordable and safe accommodations in the area? I also plan on staying there Fri-Sun so if anyone is interested in seeing the area before or after the interview then message me on here! Best of luck to everyone and I'm excited to go back to Oregon!
  14. For those out there who were/are reapplicants...how much of your original PS did you change when applying the second (or third, etc) time around? I feel that my original PS is very strong and reflects who I am and I would change very little about it but wanted to hear other's opinions. Thanks in advance!
  15. I am currently applying to PA school and so far I have 3 interviews in-state and 2 out-of-state. The cost of both out-of-state schools is estimated around 100K+ whereas in-state is estimated at about half the cost (or more). I pretty much know the response I will get but I was wondering if anyone thinks it would be worth it to wait an extra year to go to in-state (in case I'm not accepted this year) and save myself a lot of debt versus going out-of-state. Also, for current PA students or graduates who are now working as a PA, what is your estimated debt if you don't mind sharing and how long would you say it will take to pay it off. Thanks
  16. So if you don't receive an early acceptance notice does that mean they won't send any other acceptance invites until January after the remainder of the interviews are complete? also, do they encourage sending in email updates if I have additional hce and shadowing experience since applying that is not reflected on my caspa. If so, to whom should I send them?I don't want to seem pushy but also want to give myself the best chance possible. best of luck to everyone and congratulations to those accepted!
  17. Just received my invitation to interview on November 17th. I'm flying in from Texas so anyone interested in sharing a hotel or renting a car? Also, I might just plan on staying there Fri-Sun so anyone interested in seeing the area?
  18. Just curious but did you receive the invite via email or snail mail. Congrats on the interview invite!
  19. I recently received a letter in the mail informing me that my application was "on hold pending a potential invitation for an interview." I was wondering if anyone has received the same letter and/or if anyone had a suggestion of whether or not I should send additional material into the office of admissions...and, if so, what the best method of doing this would be (E.g. email, letter, etc) and to whom I should address the materials. I have some shadowing experience and more HCE hours that are not reflected on my initial application and thought any additional material might help, especially if I showed that I am always trying to progress towards a career as a PA. Thanks!
  20. There is a pre-PA general discussion forum that talks exclusively about the different types of interview questions, interview formats and scenarios you will encounter. I noticed another forum you created and I agree with those who posted there. While waiting for responses from schools you should definitely read up and look into ways to gain more HCE, particularly paid HCE (scribe, EMT, etc) and to boost your GPA a bit. You may consider retaking some classes and retaking the GRE as well, although I will say that it seems that most schools don't seem to weigh the GRE too heavily (although every bit helps!). I discovered these forums around May and spend A LOT of time reading up on just about every subject (including pre-PA forums and forums about what PA students or PA-C's have to say!). Read up, find ways to improve your application, keep your head up, and no matter the outcome of this application cycle if you really want to be a PA work towards that goal! All the best
  21. For UNTHSC I interviewed on September 14th and the admissions counselor (Felicity White) informed me that after the interview the admission board spends the following 4 weeks reviewing the applications of those that interviewed that day. After those 4 weeks they inform each interviewee whether or not they are accepted, wait-listed or rejected. Since I interviewed September 14th I plan on hearing from the board around October 14th (which is the killer!). Make sense? I received the UNT interview invite via phone call (and email if they don't get ahold of you via phone) and UTSW still uses old school mail to send out their invitations. Both schools sent me the invitations approximately 1 month before the actual interview date if that helps. It seems that many schools don't send out invitations until October/Nov/Dec so I wouldn't worry too much about interviews. I know that UTSA is one that doesn't interview until Nov/Dec/Jan. Oh, and I don't mind sharing my stats: First time applicant B.S. Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Spanish from University of Texas, Arlington Cum Undergrad GPA: 3.87 Science GPA: 3.82 HCE: 3,000 hours as an ER scribe 200 hospital volunteer hours BLS for Healthcare Providers 250 community service volunteer hours GRE: 156 V 150Q 4.0 Written Application submitted 7/9/12, verified on 7/11/12 Best of luck and keep your head up!
  22. This is my first time around but it seems like admittance notification differs greatly depending on the school. I interviewed at UNTHSC in FW, Texas who do rolling admissions and they told me to expect a decision notification 4 weeks after the interview date. UTMB on the other hand seems to notify their applicants within 2 days of interviews. Waiting is definitely killer. Best of luck with the admissions process.
  23. I interviewed at UNTHSC on September 14th and received a letter that same day inviting me to interview at UTSW on October 26/27th. Still haven't heard from UTSA or UTMB and UNTHSC told me that it would be 4 weeks before I would be notified of a decision. Best of luck in the application process. Waiting is killer!
  24. I received an email today inviting me to interview on September 14th. Sent my CASPA out early July and finished secondary application for UNT a few weeks after that. Best of luck to everyone!
