  1. Hey BobbyHillJr, when did you get your results? You took it Thursday, Aug 20th, right? Thanks!
  2. Wow, Thank you SO much @Winterallsummer!!!!! This is amazing. I really appreciate your help!!!!
  3. I've seen posts about books for specific rotations but thought it might be helpful to add a forum for book suggestions for any of the rotations. This way, we can hopefully have them all in one place. I've heard the Lange Case Files for each rotation can be helpful. I also used Surgery Recall and Abernathy's Surgical Secrets for lecture and found them really helpful. They're filled with Q&As so they keep you entertained and hopefully will be a good prep for rotations. Any other suggestions? Thanks!
  4. So in case anyone is interested regarding this year's scholarship recipients. Total applications: 1700 Awards give: 182 Of the 182 recipients: (close to these %'s but not completely accurate) MD = 27% DO = 24% Dentist = 23% PA = 16% Midwife = 1% NP = 7% The essay prompts involve your interest in primary care, working in an under-served population (or HPSA), and your experience working with these populations.
  5. I just received the acceptance email this afternoon!! Hoping for good news for you all too!!!
  6. Thanks jts!!! We're all still anxiously waiting to find out if we're recipients. I received my "Finalist" email on July 23rd but my application still says "Under Final Review". Do you remember by chance about when you found out? I received a voicemail from NHSC asking if I received an email confirming something but I've called back about 3 times now (after not receiving any such email) and still haven't heard anything else regarding what that was about. Where are you working now though and what has your experience been like? Thanks for posting!
  7. Hey yall! I got an email yesterday as well saying that an update has been made on my application so I just checked it and it says I am a finalist! We have to submit a W4 and another verification of enrollment/good academic standing by the 31st. Hopefully we'll find out officially soon after the 31st!
  8. I haven't heard anything about 190 or how many of those are designated for PAs. That is a good question though - anyone else know?
  9. Hello there fellow PA Students. I just wanted to create a thread for the 2013 NHSC (National Health Service Corps) Scholarship applicants so we can keep in touch about hearing back or to answer any questions other students may have. I know the website says we should hear back by September 30th but I spoke with another student in my class who applied as well and she heard somewhere that we COULD hear back as early as July. I know most likely this is not the case but I figured with this thread we could have a better idea of when students start hearing back. Good luck everyone!
  10. The Facebook group is now up! Here's the link for those interested. http://www.facebook.com/groups/342545072508069/?fref=ts
  11. dancinpa - Congrats on Duke! I was actually accepted there as well but went with MUSC instead. Hope you love it, and good luck!!
  12. Thanks! Did you find the group? Nothing comes up on my search :-(
  13. Hey yall! Has anyone thought about creating a Facebook group for our class? I saw on muscpa.org they made a group for the last class but I haven't seen anything yet for ours. It could help us with finding roommates and what not. Let me know what yall think!
  14. You might find some more helpful information on this website http://www.muscpa.org/
  15. For a breakdown of the total cost, go to this website http://academicdepartments.musc.edu/em/financialmanagement/chpbudget.html It has the estimated budget for year 1, 2, and 3 (3 being the first summer semester I believe). When I added the three up it comes out to be around $131,000 for in-state. I'm not sure how a state-school added up to be so much but the financial aid advisor told me the amounts listed are only estimates and represent the maximums the students may need for each year. It still seems to be excessively expensive though. As far as clinical rotation sites, I think the majority are in SC with AHEC housing and I believe the students can put in their preferences, but I'm not sure. I know two students who have worked in their home towns so I'm assuming they requested that. I think you would be able to live downtown with a bike, but the cost of living I believe is much more expensive downtown rather than James Island or West Ashley? Look here http://padmapper.com/ for the difference in cost in different areas. Other factors to consider would be to look at their PANCE pass rates. I believe MUSC over the past 5 years has a 94% pass rate. Also, what exam schedule do you prefer? MUSC goes by the block exam schedule but other programs differ from that. Hope this helps some!
  16. Same situation here! I've been accepted to both Duke and MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina) and it's been killing me trying to choose. I'm leaning towards MUSC and almost positive I'll be heading there, but I really hate turning down the #1 PA program. It's a good problem to have, I know, but still difficult nevertheless!
  17. Woot! Just got my acceptance email as well! Looks like I´ll be seeing yall in May! Congrats everyone!
  18. Hey DLandes, Would you mind telling us a little bit more about your experience at MUSC and in the Charleston area? What is an average day like for you and overall are you happy with your choice to attend MUSC? I'd love to hear more about the program from a student's point of view. I also PMed you but figured others would probably appreciate the info too. Thanks!
  19. I interviewed on October 18th and received my acceptance letter in the mail on Saturday, November 10th! At least yesterday was Sunday and today Veteran's day so no mail was being delivered. I'm sure more of you will receive your letter soon! Good luck to everyone!!
  20. I was in the interview group on October 30th and found out on November 6th that I was accepted! Good luck to interviewees! The morning session was information on their program, the virtual tour, financial aid information, 20-30 minutes sitting in on a class, and then the tour of the PA building. We then ate lunch and had a group interview and two individual interviews with two faculty members in each interview. My recommendation would be, like everyone says "Be yourself!" I had some pretty random answers which later I thought I regretted, but guess it turns out it wasn't so bad! haha Good luck everyone!!!
  21. E27, did they send you an email or letter regarding your acceptance as well? Did anyone else from october 22nd interview date hear anything back yet? Thanks!
  22. mirelaa07, when was your interview? I don't know too much about waitlisting but I'm pretty sure it just means they'll go through the rest of the interviews and if they don't fill the class with applicants from those groups then they go to the waitlist. Also if people who are accepted reject the invite and if the class thus is still not full, then they go to the waitlist. (I think!)
