  1. Hello, My name is Derek Landes and I am a 1st year PA student at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. I am from Westerville, OH and trying to set up as many clinical rotations around there as possible. I am looking for an OB-GYN rotation for the dates of 5/27/2014 - 6/27/2014. My preceptor may be a MD, NP, or PA. The preceptor will receive 200 level CME credit. If you have an availability, or know anyone that might be interested in serving as my preceptor please feel free to contact me. Thank you! Derek

  3. Hey everyone, I am a current 1st year student who posted earlier in this thread. I just want to say keep your head up as I actually had a stressful experience with MUSC as well and here I am! I actually interviewed during the first early session and didn't find out that I was accepted until March while some people found out November 30th! I had already been accepted to two other programs and put my deposit down at one and had everything ready to go there. I just wanted to hopefully provide some hope for some of you who may not have heard anything yet. Some of my classmates didn't find out they were accepted until 2 weeks before classes began, so hang in there! Hopefully I'll see some of you in January.
  4. I would try to keep it at or under the limit. I don't know what goes on when they evaluate applications but you definitely wouldn't want to be thrown out because you couldn't follow directions or something. I know it's hard to say what you need to in 250 words
  5. I had a 3.99 GPA, 1170 GRE and 300 hrs of PA shadowing. I didn't have any paid hands on training because I played college baseball and didn't have much time beyond shadowing here and there in the summers. There is nothing I particularly dislike, other than the fact that we have to maintain an 85% cumulative average in order to avoid academic probation. I haven't really flirted with that line at all yet but it is always in the back of my head. Anatomy is tough but the professor is absolutely amazing! If you all have not turned in your applications yet here are a few things to think about putting in your essays. Talk about interprofessionalism (working with other professions like PT, OT, MD), they are really big on it here. Absolutely DO NOT write physician assistant's/PA's (simply put PAs), one of our professors biggest pet peeves is the 's which denotes ownership of the PA. Also do not say PAs work UNDER the supervision of an MD; instead say works WITH the supervision of an MD. Be ready to answer questions about strengths and weaknesses and don't be that person that says "I'm a perfectionist, or I overwork myself" they can see through the BS trust me. Again I really enjoy it here so far, but there is no way around it, your world is going to be rocked. If you all have anymore questions feel free to ask.
  6. Hey guys I am a current 1st PA student at MUSC. We are insanely busy right now with finals coming up but if I can help you all in any way feel free to ask. I may not get back to you right away but I know how it feels to be where you are right now! I love MUSC so far, you guys are making a great choice by applying here. Good luck with your applications!
  7. For those that had Jan interviews, did they say when they'd make their decisions?
  8. Thank you! I forgot Lori had that list, I will be sure to get it. I know it seems dumb that I want to have my dog with me but she is like my child at this point lol!
  9. Is anyone really familiar with the marietta area and housing options? I really want to be able to bring my dog with me down there, is this going to be difficult to do?
  10. Definitely want to congratulate those who were accepted. Unfortunately I was passed on for early admissions and rolled back to regular decision. I have my fingers crossed though! Good luck to everyone else!
  11. Hey Colby it's Derek, we were in the same group! Hope all is well. Did you get that email today about not knowing until after Dec. 2nd... Not cool man I don't want to wait any longer! Have a good thanksgiving!
  12. If you have something that has been expunged from your record do you still have to mention it to licensing boards?
