  1. No more distance learning. They started that this year. The curriculum is now 3 months longer and clinical rotations start later. It will be a masters of physician assistant studies and they are debating if it will stay under the medical school or if they are going to move it under the school of nursing, but everything in the UC system is slow so if they move to the school of nursing it probably won't happen right away and so far it's just a rumor.
  2. If it's an accredited university they will probably accept it but I would highly suggest not doing those courses online. The people that are doing really well in the class have a strong A&P framework and the people struggling are those that took an easier Anatomy course to fulfill the requirements. Make it easier for yourself.
  3. UC Davis just got approved for the Master's degree for the FNP/PA program for the entering class of 2013 so no more worries about the certificate. There are bridge programs to obtain a masters degree if you have a certificate, but you don't need to worry about that at UC Davis. The program director told me last week that the program has officially been approved for the Masters.
  4. We have an offer to get Epocrates at a discount through my program, but I am just wondering if any professionals use it or if there is something better I should consider. Any help is appreciated.
  5. I applied to 17 programs. My science GPA was a little bit lower but mostly I applied to that many school because I really wanted to go to PA school and didn't want to apply a second round. I did my research and applied to programs that I thought could be a good fit for me. I was offered 4 interviews but after being accepted into the program I wanted, I turned down the other three interviews. I don't regret applying to so many programs. I'm happy to be in a good program and if I had only applied to the programs in my area I wouldn't be a PA student right now.
  6. We only have one out of state student in our class but I know they interviewed other people from out of state. In the interview, you will definitely be able to explain that you are from California and plan to become a resident again. You could also call or email the office and explain your situation if you are concerned it will affect whether or not you get an interview. Hope that helps and good luck!
  7. Good luck Allison. I wish I had a lead for you. I applied last year and thankfully was accepted with MD shadowing but no PA shadowing. I found it really difficult to find PAs to shadow in Portland. I worked at OHSU and knew several doctors and PAs and still couldn't find someone to shadow. I would suggest contacting smaller practices and asking if you could shadow their PAs. They seem to be more flexible about it and that is how a few friends of mine found someone to shadow. I really do wish you luck!!

  10. I sent a general one to the adcom thanking them for the opportunity and expressing my further interest in the program. I got accepted about 2 days later.
  11. I just was offered an interview for the Mar 9th date. I have already been accepted to another program and I am wondering if it is worth it for me to fly cross country for this interview. . . beside reading over the website I don't know much about Hofstra's reputation, cost of living in the area, etc. Is anyone familiar with the program and have any advice or info. I am mostly concerned about their PANCE pass rates. . .
  12. I got an email today with an interview invitation. Initially I had been put on the hold list. I may turn down the interview as I have already been accepted somewhere else. Did anyone else receive an email today?
