  1. For anyone looking for a place to live, a place just opened up near me. I believe it's a three bed, two bath. It's a duplex and I think the cost is 800 per month. My wife and I live in a 2 bed 2 bath just a few doors down. Only about 5 minutes from the university. These were just built last summer so relatively new. Let me know if anyone wants the number. I'm a first year going on second in August btw.
  2. As for the scholarships.....The "big" scholarship that they spoke about during orientation will not open up until this summer. They will send y'all a packet with acceptance info, financial aid, papers you need to fill out and return, ect. I believe they will email you scholarship information. I was one of the fortunate people who received the "big" scholarship and I know you will have to write an essay, show financial need "which shouldn't be hard lol", ect. They will not announce the recipients of the scholarships until the white coat ceremony before you start classes. Also, they will send you an email telling you to sign up for an online medical terminology class that you MUST take and have completed before orientation. It is really not that hard of a class. Last year we had to be here 3 weeks before school started for a 2 week orientation. I am not sure how they will do it this year but I would expect similar. During this orientation Mr. Ambriz and some of the faculty will talk to you and do "lectures" and the current students will come in and do some activities with y'all and give you advice on how classes are, answer questions, ect. I know this is a lot of information and I am sure y'all have a lot of questions. If you would like my email or number to get ahold of me and ask me questions just private message me and I'll be more than happy to help. Try to enjoy your summer and do not try to do a lot of "school preparing". You will learn everything you need to know when you go through the program. Again, Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted so far!!!
  3. Congratulations!!! Take time to enjoy this moment because once you start the program a lot of your free time and time with family is disappointedly gone. As for housing, my wife and I live in a 2 bed 2 bath duplex that is about 5 minutes away from campus. They are currently building new ones right across from us and should be ready by the time y'all move here. I spoke to the president of our class, I'm the "student government/community rep" btw, and we are planning on putting together a list with recommendations of places to live along with phone numbers, ect. I know how stressful it can be to move here, we moved from the panhandle. If you would like information right now about a few places I know of just private message me and I'll for sure help you out.
  4. Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted so far!!! We all look forward to seeing y'all in the fall! If you need help finding places to live or want some recommendations and phone numbers just let me know and I'll do my best to help you out. It can be pretty daunting trying to relocate. As for those who were not accepted yet, what they are going to o is put everyone else on a waitlist. They will then meet in a few weeks to make a list of 20 to accept if the program gets approval for 80 students. Then they will also make another waitlist by certain rankings in case people do not accept or cannot come for personal reasons.
  5. You should be receiving both. They usually send out an email and you call to accept or decline the offer. Then if you accept they will send out an official letter with forms you have to fill out and return

  7. Alright everybody here is the latest update. All the faculty are currently in a meeting together right now to go over all the applicants who interviewed and they are going to make their final decisions today. Right now they are going to accept 50 unconditionally and have 30 on a waitlist for when they get approved for 80 students. They will also have an additional waitlist in case people turn down an acceptance. Also, not next year but the year after they have said they will be accepting 100 applicants. This is the profession to be getting into. Remember it's all about our future patients! Best of Luck to everyone!

  9. Hey y'all I was speaking to one of our professors today and she said that they are now waiting on the ARC-PA to give them approval to accept 80 students this next year. She then said what the faculty had decided to do was make a list of 50 they would accept and a list of 30 on a wait list until the increase to 80 is approved. Hope y'all hear something soon. Waiting is hard, I know. Best of Luck to everyone!

  11. Hey everybody my names Josh and I'm a first year here. I spoke to Mr. Ambriz the other day and it's kind of awkward how everything is going to get the approval for 80 students. The PAEA wants the school to have all the faculty in place and facilities to accomodate 80 students. The head guys at UTPA want approval before they hire faculty. So.....it's just a big circle going around. However, I know that they are interviewing for faculty positions currently. We actually sit in on these lectures from prospective faculty interviewees along with the current faculty to see how their teaching style is. So steps are being made in the right direction for the approval to 80 students. Plus they are currently in the process of moving the bookstore so the PA program can move into where the bookstore used to be. That all being said the program was told they would hear from the PAEA sometime this month so I'm sure that is what they are still waiting on. Waiting to hear on acceptance is always the hardest part in my mind. Stay positive and hopefully y'all will be hearing something soon!
  12. Hey I just received my acceptance email today as well!
  13. Has anyone who interviewed on 11/11 heard anything back yet?
