  1. So since the original post I have decided to forgo the white coat. I have been pulled into the office managers office twice now about not wearing a white coat. Again they do not provide lab coats or launder them for that matter. I have also just received a written warning for not wearing a white coat as they deem it it against the dress code for medical providers. So now they are saying it is part of the dress code for medical providers to wear a lab coat. I have never seen this in writing nor did I sign anything about any dress code policy. The written warning also went into detail about further disclipinary actions involving the corporate attorney in accordance with labor laws. Last I checked a lab coat is part of PPE and must be provided by the employer and laundered by the employer (not washed at the employers home) occording to OSHA. I need some advise about this issue. Do I need to contact OSHA myself?
  2. My current employer requires that I wear a white coat in clinic. Personally I dislike wearing white coats. If my employer requires that I wear a white coat should they provide one for me or am I obligated to purchase one on my own?
  3. Can anyone tell me when is it a good time to bring up contract renegotiations? My current contract is up on 11/13/18 and so far I am considering staying with the group. On my current contact I am to give a 60 day notice of termination of the contract. If my employer does not approach me with a contract extension do I approach them? If so then at what point do I approach my employer about a contract extension?
  4. So I am a new grad that will be taking my boards on 8/25. My employer wants me to get the ball rolling on the paper work for licensing so that I can start as soon as possible and I have absolute zero clue on how to fill this stuff out. Does anyone have any idea how this stuff is to be filled out? What parts I need to fill out? What parts I need to omit? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Thank you everyone for your responses and advice. It is much appreciated. It is in a populous area of the midwest.
  6. I am an upcoming grad in a couple of weeks and have always seen myself doing ortho. I have a few options after graduation. I was recently accepted into an ortho surg residency, I also have a job offer in sports med where I would have to relocate, and I also have a job offer at a local level 1 trauma hospital in ortho trauma. Both jobs are split clinic and or and I can see myself being happy doing either job. My question is, is it worth it to do an ortho residency when I have job offers in ortho?

    Help please

I am a current first year PA student at Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA. After wrapping up our first semester we were already given the duty of signing up for our first clinical rotation that will begin next fall 2014 and of coarse we do not have any established sites in Nevada. I am a southern California native and have many family members in the Las Vegas and Henderson area and it would be great to get at least get one rotation site in the area so I can save some money by staying with family. If there are any PA-C's, MD's or DO's or if you even know of a colleague that does take in students that are willing to be preceptors in the areas of OBGYN, pediatrics, internal medicine, family medicine, emergency medicine or psych please PM me. Also, please feel free to PM me for any other additional information. Thank you very much in advanced. Jason G.

  9. This is not their first ever program. They had one way back in the day. http://www.arc-pa.org/acc_programs/prev_acc_programs.html
  10. So my program requires the students to purchase an otoscope and ophthalmoscope (I know shocker) for the didactic year, which I am sure I will only ever use for practice. I know the brand to get is welch allyn, however my question is which models should I get? On my equipment list it says otoscope thats it, it does not specify if I should get macro view or not, and for the ophthalmoscope it says coaxial is acceptable. I was just thinking of getting the basic diagnostic set of just the standard scopes (non-macro view otoscope and non-coaxial ophthalmoscope) as my rational is that my clinical sites will most likely have the basic equipment that I would already be comfortable using and if they did have the better equipment that would just be a bonus. Does that make sense?
  11. I plan on going over med term again and doing just about all the suggestions in the sticky that's in the general discussion link under the pa student threads. As well as trying not to stress too much as there will be plenty of time for that later on.
  12. Got mine two weekends ago. So excited and relieved. Now time to relax while we can.
