  1. A classmate of mine from PA school @ South College created a website that has PA school faculty, alumni, and admissions committee members review your personal statement for applying to PA school (for a fee) in a secure manner so that your essay stays your essay. He has been very active on this forum although I don't know if he wants me to share his "handle" but he is passionate about helping current and soon to be PA students. Check it out: http://www.myparesource.com/
  2. A former classmate of mine from PA school has created a website that allows you to upload your personal statement securely and it will be reviewed for you (for a fee) and analyzed by individuals that have gotten into PA school, are PA faculty members, or have been on or are currently on admission comittees for PA schools. This service is secure and you know that your paper will not be re-used or stolen by another potential applicant to PA school. There are several packages depending on how in depth you want your paper reviewed. Check it out and help out a PA who has been really active on this forum answering questions for Pre-PA students as he gets this business off the ground. I am not personally involved in this venture and do not receive compensation for sharing just thought it may help some of you. http://www.myparesource.com/
  3. If you go to school at any of the TN PA schools or are from TN and are a PA student planning on practicing there add yourself to the TN PA student facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/TNPAStudents/ You can share info you found helpful in your education or see what other students have to say.

  6. I can not give you any specifics regarding the writing sample prompt as this is a major no no. It isn't a big deal it is simply to see if you can compose a college level essay and it isn't anything you need to study for. The day will consist of a brief information session, tour of the facilities, writing sample, group interviews, and individual interviews where you will find out if you are accepted, rejected-with an explanation on how to improve your application, or waitlisted. South draws a lot of people from the wait list as they have a rolling admissions process. There will be students from the current didactic class and some from clinical rotations and possibly some who have already graduated at the interview to answer your questions away from faculty.
  7. I am considering taking a position through NHSC at the Coleman FCI in Coleman, FL but I want to talk to a PA that has worked there or at another similar prison first.
  8. I am considering taking a job at the Coleman FCI in Coleman, FL as part of NHSC but I want to talk with someone who has or is working there or in other federal prisons. What is it like?
  9. If you do the loan repayment program vs the scholarship program, you find the site first (or should at least) before you apply for repayment. The scholarship program sends you where they want and in the repayment program if you apply for the program first and then fail to find a site before your contract start time they will send you somewhere.
  10. This kind of misinformation is quite common. I don't know if PAs or the AAPA is just quiet about the profession or if it's just the nursing lobby doing their thing. A simple search for physician assistant vs. nurse practioner brings up things like this: http://onlinenursepractitionerprograms.com/nurse-practitioner-vs-physician-assistant-whats-the-difference/
  11. Our class sold candles that a local company makes for fundraisers, car washes work well, coupon books, pancake breakfasts or the restaurant thing you suggested are good as is the garage sale idea.
  12. If you are interested in attending the AAPA Annual Convention IMPACT 2013 in Washington, D.C. and representing PA students nationwide as a student delegate to the House of Delegates, applications and program director statements are due tomorrow, 10/31/2012. They have not received anywhere near the 51 applicants they accept so if you are thinking about it, go for it! Check out the AAPA website for details and forms.
  13. I got married 5 months before starting PA school and after 1st quarter, my wife moved back to FL and now we are separated. We had some problems for sure but PA school is very time consuming and I wish we had waited until after school to get married. It is certainly doable but PA school adds a big stressor on your marriage and if you don't have a strong foundation, it may crumble.
  14. When I was at the conference in Toronto this year participating in the Assembly of Representatives, I got a chance to meet the other representatives from TN and we discussed the fact that we don't communicate enough amongst the different programs. I started a Facebook group that I hope will be a means of collaboration and communication amongst the various schools in TN. Check it out: https://www.facebook.com/groups/TNPAStudents/
  15. I thought it would be advantageous to communicate more often and collaborate occasionally, especially when it come to issues that will affect us all.
