  4. I had the group presentation and asynchronous interview on 8/3 and the director said that there were 2 more interview blocks and that only about half the class is filled! She said that they try to keep some seats open until all of the applicants are interviewed and that they will make the final decisions after the last interview block in September.

  5. The unspoken lie IMHO is that EMR is anything other than a mechanism to ensure that every penny can be wrung out of the patient or their insurance carrier. They all posses a level of aggravation that can't be justified!

  10. Thank you! And congrats to you as well! This is my first application cycle and that was also my first interview as well haha. For preparation, I just tried rehearing some of the common questions that are asked in order to hear myself speaking out loud. I also did a mock interview with family and then one with a PA which I highly recommend because it gave me a lot more confidence going in. The best advice I can give is to just be yourself. I know that is often repeated around here, but it's so true. The committee already knows your stats so now you have to show them that you're an awesome

  11. Hi! Does anyone know of any programs that once required the GRE and are now no longer requiring it this year due to COVID? I wanted to apply to a few more schools but haven’t taken the GRE. Thanks!

  14. Do they give you a ranking on the waitlist? How does it work or do you have an idea how many waitlist have been accepted in the past? I wonder if they review the waitlist after each round of interviews for reconsideration?

  24. Hey guys I got waitlisted too! I think they are letting in a few people from each interview so far. Hopefully once their interview sessions are completed those of us on the waitlist will hear back with some acceptances. I'm going to keep positive because I really want to attend this program!

  29. If you're planning on moving down here, I would live in Vancouver. That way your wife can work there and not have to pay Oregon income tax, but still be nearby Portland area if that's where you end up.

  30. As I have stated before I think eating disordered patients are one of the most challenging to care for. I can completely see why you would be frustrated. When I was in corrections I could not convince staff that weekly weights were not helpful. And when they would report the patient is gaining weight "how much of an eating disorder can they have" my frustrations was palpable.

  31. I did shirt, tie, and vest. I don't own a suit, never have, if the lack of a suit jacket would have been the reason I got rejected I wouldn't have wanted to go there anyway. If you can rock a suit and feel confident in it go for it but it's not my style. I dressed in something I could feel good wearing and not be self conscious.

  32. So without taking COVID into play, back in January we got to vote and decide what type of community service project we wanted to do during didactic year. My class voted to help a local charity that works with children who have cancer, but unfortunately we haven’t been able to carry that out due to the pandemic. It’s a little bit on the back burner right now, but I think we’re trying to find another way to serve that might be safer. There is also the opportunity for a mission trip during the clinical year, which I think is usually in August and goes to South America. I’m not sure that the clini

  34. I AM SO WILDLY PUMPED. Was literally building excitement counting down the days until this august 5th email update (now august 10th) they have (in my personal experience) been the best school at updating applicants! ALL OF YOU SEEM AWESOME! cant wait to hopefully meet you in the interview! (Or before if anyone wants to practice mock stuff )

  35. I feel your pain. AllScripts was the same kind of thing. But everything had a drop down and click. I counted one day - it can be over 600 clicks for a single chart. I told a VP that called me one day that he should have to sit next to me while I used it and for every useless click, I get to hit him with a stick. He declined. I kept having daydreams of using my laptop as a skeet target; burning it in effigy and dancing around it or winning the lottery and buying an EMR company for the sole purpose of shutting it down.

  37. Hi everyone! I was curious if there are any current students or alumni on this page that could point me in the right direction. I am trying to do research on the school and the benefits of the program or some great opportunities they offer (ie clinicals, cadaver labs, scholarships, community engagement programs, etc) and I haven't found much information. Anyone have any ideas on where to look? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Best of luck to yall in this crazy (but hopefully rewarding!) process.

  41. If you read all of the drop down tabs on this website https://med.und.edu/physician-assistant/prerequisites.html#d28e110-3 it says you don't have to apply with a preceptor although it decreases the likelihood of getting accepted. You are correct as with the current pandemic many hospitals are not taking students especially in metropolitan areas. My only recommendation is to try more rural clinics as if it is something that you desire to do you may have to relocate. Hope this helps

  42. 'Scary' is a value judgement. The same numbers can be looked at as both horrible (4x annual flu deaths and rising fast... with FAR worse sequelae in those who recover) or not (it could have been worse). I'm somewhat in the latter category, because I was expecting far more fatalities by now. People have differing responses to fear-inducing circumstances they cannot control, ranging from catatonic paralysis to blase fatalism. As long as they're both working off real data, and not ignoring actual numbers on some stupid pretext that Covid-19 deaths are being manipulated... it's kinda OK.

  44. The duration of vaccine immunity from pertussis ranges from 4-20 yrs. A test of titer costs over $350. The vaccine is cheap. Immunity numbers are not reassuring. Washington keeps having pertussis outbreaks and even previously vaccinated folks are getting it. So, I only use tdap. Period. Td is of no real use to me with my patient population who have near universal DM, HTN, COPD, hx CHF and other comorbid conditions and many still smoke. Now, if only medical professionals could get meningococcal vaccines routinely.....

  48. Is the CastleBranch background check something we have to do before interviews? I thought most programs made you do it after being accepted and submitting your deposit. Spending $150+ on a background check before knowing if I get accepted is not something I saw coming.
