just_me
Ok....so there are a TON of threads about online courses. I was hoping we could make this thread a sticky and it could become a one stop source for those looking for certain online courses. I think to make it easy for everyone, if we could just stick with the main pre-req courses like medical terminology, bio chemistry, organic chemistry, pathophysiology, genetics ect. it would be great. Also if anyone knows where to find recommended courses online like histology, virology, endocrinology, immunology ect. that would be great too. It’s also important to note that ANYONE seeking to take online versions of their pre-req courses should first contact the programs that they are interested in as some might not accept this type of credit. They should also be aware that a lb component may be needed and might not be offered online. Now that I have said that, I have run into A LOT of these courses online. The first place I would like to post is Chemeketa. They offer bio, a&p, micor, chem., organic I and an organi/biochem intro course online. I thought they were cool because if you register as a completely online student you pay instate tuition. http://online.chemeketa.edu/ Indian River State College offers chem. I and II and bio I and II online no lab and I think some of the other pre-reqs www.ircc.edu Brevard CC offers a intro to organic online and I think a&p and micro online www.brevardcc.edu St Petersburg College offers micro and a&p I and II online www.spcollege.edu University of Florida has a grad level biochem http://hort.ifas.ufl.edu/teach/guyweb/bch5045/index.html And they have a undergrad biochem http://www.distancelearning.ufl.edu/Courses.aspx?q=chemistry&cs=5&ct=7&dm=255&dtb=&dte= Empire State has a genetics course and a Spanish for health care professionals http://www.esc.edu/admin/esc/cdl/cdlcat.nsf/4term?openview&count=1000 St Josephs has virology, genetics, immunology and cell biology and just in the psring....could have more http://www.sjc.edu/content.cfm/pageid/5503 Kansas State University has genetics and biochemistry...didnt search for others https://eis.dce.ksu.edu/CreditReg/CourseSearch/ University of south Florida has general chem. Moderator EMEDPA Posted July 16, 2008 Moderator Share Posted July 16, 2008 clackamas community college has an online microbio course and you do all the labs at home with a kit they send you.
haeriphos
I took General Biology (with lab) through the University of Minnesota's IDL program and will be taking Biochem (no lab) next summer. Sometimes online/distance ed classes get a bad reputation, but General Bio was one of the best, and most challenging, classes I've taken. www.cce.umn.edu

tootie
Thank you for the list. I have a question, will PA programs accept pre-reqs from a CC? I already have a BS degree and just need a couple pre-reqs to apply to PA school. If I could take them online and through a Comm College because it costs less that would be great, but I'm afraid PA schools will look down on my taking courses online at the community college level...let me know what you think?? Thanks
bradtPA
Not all programs will accept course work from community colleges. Look at the program you intend to apply to and see what their policy is.

If I could take them online and through a Comm College because it costs less that would be great, but I'm afraid PA schools will look down on my taking courses online at the community college level...let me know what you think?? Thanks bradTPA is correct...I have seen at least 1 school say that pre-reqs MUST be taken at a 4 year and then I have seen at leats 1 or 2 that say things like "prefered" or "upper level sciences should/must be taken at a 4 year" you really need to check out their website or call the program directly. Now I have called a few about online pre-reqs and most of the ones that I called didnt have a problem just as long as it was an accredited school. They did stress that I needed the lab and that many online programs do not supply an online lab...HOWVER there are many that do. Best I can say is call them before you get yourself set up to take them online and make sure you take it with a professor that knows thier stuff and doesnt let you just slide along in class. I am a proud supporter of online classes...im graduating with my AA this saturday because of online classes BUT I also took a few science courses online that I plan to take over. My intro to chem and bio were great and prepared me for general bio and chem HOWEVER my A&P professor was also a full time physician and didnt really put his all into our A&P course and made it quite easy to get through....it didnt go into enough depth so Im taking it again. He wasnt a bad professor, but he taught it more like a "survey of" course as opposed to pre-med level.

tootie
Question for this thread. I wanted to take a few pre-reqs through Mountain State University. Anyone else take any online classes through that school? What did you think? Thanks
Prospective PA
online classes are great (dont know about Mountain State) and are good for regular classes but be careful with pre req's. You will find on other threads here that some PA programs do not accept online prereqs. Get the facts from the programs you are interested in before you start the pre reqs

Guest jesse0081
Ocean County Community College (NJ). I'm currently re-taking Bio 1 and A&P1 and they're 100% online (including lab). They also offer Chem. 1 & 2 with lab, micro, and many other science and non-science classes that are 100% online.
