Hi, I am interviewing for a cards inpatient position at an academic level 1 trauma center. The team is made up of 15 PA/NPs and about 6 cardiologist. What I know so far of the position is

	1. all inpatient consults and rounding. Present each case to attending, adjust as needed etc

	2. Will be seeing 18-20 pts per day possibly

	3. supervising non-invasive stress testing and something else I asked her to clarify

From my understanding there is no outpatient, we do not go to cath lab,

can someone tell me what my day to day would look like in cardiology? Like what types of things will I see? What is your experience as a PA in cardiology? What is a fair salary? This is not EP or Interventional cards.

Right now I work in hospital medicine and see CHF, arrhythmia, endocarditis, valve abnormalities, etc etc...so I'm wondering how different this population will be relative to the one I have now. I rarely consult cards. Maybe once a year. Any feedback would be appreciated

Hello ya'll ! I am a PA of 11 years w/ IM, inpatient cards experience and a rare opportunity/unheard sprung up. Due to the RN shortage, a cardiology group has invited me to interview to become the APP patient liaison for outpatient cardiology patient. This would be a piloted position. Essentially triaging patient cases during business hours, sorting through tasks, answering any residual questions patients may have post discharge, INR adjustments, etc. No direct patient interaction except for " the rare occasions".

Sounds to good to be true yes ? Anything that ya'll recommend for screening questions ?

Any insight in personal experience appreciated.

 Hello Folks,

I have been working in a " correctiional Facility" for over one and half years , the management changed and the manager (HSA) is very controlling and induces " fear" to control. Has fired many people as they are going through some budget shortage, I was her recent target , It was mentally getting so stressful, I quit last week. They were ok with it. It was getting hard for me looking for another job with the full time work I had . Currently had 3 interviews and one was as PA for an interventional cardiologist in an reputed hospital. My intial interview ( through zoom) went well , they will let me know by end of next week for the second interview. How difficult is the trasition from PA for a correctional facility to being a PA in cardiology?I also did a special rotation in cardiology during PA school as ultimately , I wanted to get in that speciality. I am hoping I will get the secong interview. Any of the PA's for interventional cardiology guide me ?? Would appreciate any other suggetions or guidance. I need to find a job soon as I am a single mom. Thank you.

I have a quick question. It is not about a real patient, certainly not about me, or a family member. It is a clinical / academic question about the physical exam of someone with rheumatic heart disease. I have a new book I'm working (novel) on and in it a PA examines such a patient. I think I have the exam right, but would love to have someone with more expertise in cardiology to look the two paragraphs over. I would do the same for someone with a neurological question. Just send me a PM through the forum. Thanks for even considering it.

	Hey all.

I used to do cardiac stress testing, and I was wondering...was that job actually safe? I was doing standard Technetium 99 stress tests all day at that practice, which of course, involves standing next to and in front of patients injected with rest and stress doses of Tc99 for large periods of time. I did my best to keep distance, but as anyone in the field knows, there's a lot of time spent right next to the patient taking pressures, keeping them from falling, running the stress machine, putting electrodes on and off, etc. I could not find any data online, anywhere, about radiation risks to us stress technicians (only articles about the nuclear techs, who arguably might be exposed to far less patient contact).

Wondering if anyone had thoughts on it...I did wear a dosimeter badge most of the time, as far as I recall, and nobody ever alerted me to overexposure...however, who knows if they were even reading rhe reports. I don't think I ever saw any personally. I wonder if those are still kept on file?

Any other stress PAs here have any thoughts on the matter? Any health risks in particular to watch out for in the future?

	Thanks all.

Hello, I am considering a pa position offering 50% outpatient and 50% EP. The outpatient practice is privately owned and is somewhat creating a hybrid track for me and my interests which include, outpatient, inpatient, and procedures.

I am primarily concerned with caring for patients and making a difference, and I would also like to be a strong asset to the practice and carve out a niche for myself. Are there any cardiology or EP docs or pas could offer some input on your experiences or resources I should be utilizing to gain pointers on how to enhance my worth and skillset within the realms of cardiology and EP?

Does anyone have any connections or know of anyone that I could reach out to? Thanks in advance.

	Hello,

Currently in my 2 nd year PA school doing rotation # 6 in cardiology with a physician in CA. Its been one week and mostly I have been just shadowing him. The day starts with rotations at hospital , coming back to the clinic, he lets me see few patients by myself ( May be the number will increase as days goes by) and then again rounding in the hospital around lunch time with finishing in the clinic. He does cardiac catheterizations on Wednesdays ( which I watch & then he comes & explains which artery he put stent on or just did the diagnostic ) I am not doing a lot of hands on with him. Is that normal? I know it can vary from physician to physician but just wanted to get an idea what to expect. Also he has been mentioning that he is looking to hire a PA because his work load is high & when I asked in detail what would the job responsibilities , he said mostly taking care of the paperwork & discharges..( but honestly I don't have a clear idea yet) Should I consider this an job opportunity ? Also how do find out what would be the responsibilities of PA he is planning to hire ? This is still my 1st week in the rotation. I am interested in practicing in cardiology but wanted to make sure this is the right job for me. Any input is highly appreciated. Thank you.

I recently found out randomly that I am making the same salary as one of the general cardiology NPs who strictly sees outpatients, and also has less experience than me. Does anyone have experience in whether PAs in EP should be making more than general cards because it is a subspecialty and the EP physicians make more and we likely make the hospital more money? Any thoughts? Trying to decide about asking for a salary adjustment. Any input appreciated, thanks!

Cardiology Offer for New Grad

Hello! I just received a job offer in cardiology and was hoping to get some insight and advice into what points I should negotiate.

The offer:

-Salary: $83,000 annual salary to increase to $85,000 after I complete credentialing at the hospital

-Schedule: Mon-Fri 8-5, one call weekend per month

-Travel: Travel is required to satellite offices but few details are given except mileage is reimbursed at a rate of $0.535/mile

-Benefits: health/dental/life insurance, long/short term disability, six paid holidays per year, 4 weeks of paid personal/vacation, pension/401-(k) plan after 1 year, $1000 and 2 PTO days per year for CME, paid malpractice

Questions:

-Do you feel that the salary is fair? If not, what would you ask for?

-Since my salary increase depends on completing credentialing at the hospital, how long does this typically take?

-Are there any other items in the offer that you would question or negotiate?

-Is there bonus potential in cardiology? If so, how is this normally structured?

Thank you in advance for all of your opinions and advice! I want to be informed and represent our profession well when I negotiate this offer tomorrow morning.
