I looked at the APAA website, and the census does not really help because the respondants are mostly people with 10+ yrs experience. I want to negotiate a contract I may be receiving soon. Thanks :) There is an AAPA new grad salary survey for PAs graduating in 2006. I kinda used the AAPA salary and state specific as well as dept of labor to figure out what to ask for. First time in my adult life I move from my home state and I only made it to exit 6 :p You would think that a green area would have a monopoly on allergies, but I'm seeing a lot right now. I've almost forgotten what normal nasal mucosa looks like! Have fun at the concert! Is it at Verizon? This is a great time of year for outside events. However, cardiothoracic surgery PA's there can earn up to $105K. For those who are unaware, Carolinas Medical Center is the largest hospital in Charlotte. This information is available on their internal job posting site. You can also get an individualized salary survey from the AAPA that would cover your specialty (FP), years of experience (0-1), and geographic region. chatcat Posted November 18, 2006 Share Posted November 18, 2006 Another NC resident here and can tell you that we have a very healthy economy for PA's throughout the state. Specialities do bring in more but for starting salaries 70-75K is the norm. The areas with PA programs (Triangle & Triad areas) tend to have lower salaries due to folks wanting to live in the cities and the supply of PA's greater. The median salary was quite a bit less in 2006 than it is now in 2008 for PA's. I live in southeastern NC with a county population near 300k(near FT Bragg) I just got my W2 from my primary employer (not all my per diem gigs) and it was well over 120K. this is for EM.... It all comes down to if this job is something that you think you would enjoy (good working environment,good experience) and it affords you the type of lifestyle you want (no commuting in Charlotte traffic daily). Unfortunately one of the perks of living in a very friendly PA state that has lots of new graduates in the marketplace is that people want to live in the urban areas and they have little problem filling positions...and sounds like you do have a choice of jobs so make a fit that is right for you. Now that I have the 1+ year of experience, I left my first job and now am making 15-16K more than when I started. I am also about to interview for a speciality which will give me another 5-6K. I did EM in Charlotte (after 2 years of Em where I trained elsewhere - interestingly, I couldn't find anywhere in Charlotte that would hire a new grad when I was fresh out. The firm offer I have so far is 65K plus standard bennies for a rural family practice 30 min from the beach for the first 6 mo as a probationary period, then renegotiate.... Whats the point in obtaing a cheaper cost of living, if you will only make less -- lifestyle will be equal. Big private groups will negotiate if your experience matches there needs.
