I've looked at sites showing average salaries for PA's but haven't seen a site that distinguishes between these two. Anyone who knows of a site or knows first hand? Anyone who knows of a site or knows first hand? you take a job like this because you are committed to a cause, not for the money. you certainly could make much more elsewhere but you are doing a lot more societal good at a place like this doing paps on folks who wouldn't otherwise get them, treating std's instead of letting them go untreated, etc I'm guessing( no 1st hand knowledge) that they probably pay around 2/3 what you could get elsewhere. WE SHOULD NEVER GET PAID LESS THAN $85,000 PER YEAR! I hate to admit it, but we are going to have to make "friends" with NP's, because they are dragging our salaries down! We have got to convince them to refuse such low wages. Come on, $55,392/yr is absolutely RIDICULOUS! Look at the responsibility/liability you are assuming! Make no mistake, even if doctors prefer PA's (they do), they aren't going to care if it's a PA or NP, whoever gets the job done for less. You choose either areas for your love of the work itself and not the salary. If you so choose to work for Planned Parenthood then negotiate at the higher end of the pay scale. BTW: I have worked for this organization in the past and it provides wonderful experience for Gyn. There are other previous threads on here about this organization you might want to search as well. PACPhD Posted October 1, 2006 Share Posted October 1, 2006 Just make sure you are a female as PP, at least in NY, refiuses to hire males. They are pretty blatant about it. I had to take them to federal mediation over it. They came in with 3 lawyers. After a few hours, they kept leaving the room, having little meetings with the attorneys, and coming back. They finally asked, "what is it you want"? I told them I wanted to work one day a month. They left the room, had another meeting, came back, looked at me and the mediator, and just said "no". pastudent217 Posted October 27, 2006 Share Posted October 27, 2006 I desperately wanted to get a job in Ob/GYN and interviewed with many PP divisions. Their job adds said, PA/NP, so I applied, interviewed, and followed up. Many of them kept stringing me along, one for as long as 3 months after the interview....and they all ended up hiring NPs. Maybe I'm still disappointed/upset that I couldn't land an OB/gyn job, but I feel that they never had any intention of hiring a PA, and just interviewed me to appear fair in the hiring process. Now, I am in my primary care rotation at one, where I work along side two male PA's, many women PA's, and some NP's. Maybe it is California, but we have the whole spectrum on-board! I think the starting pay is similar to what was posted before, but some clinicians who have been there 10+ years definitely earn more than $44/hr. PACPhD...that NY policy sounds very odd, I'm really sorry that you had that experience with PP. The male clinicians I work with are some of the patients' favorites (it may have something to do with the fact that we are a primary care clinic?) Jammin Posted April 2, 2008 Share Posted April 2, 2008 I just got an offer from a Community Health Center (federally and privately funded) to start at $74,000 with excellenct bennies (medical, dental, vision, cme, malpractice, 10% above my salary to 401K) and the site will qualify for $12,000/year in state loan repayment. I get to see all of the same things I see in my other primary care rotation, but work with mostly underserved populations. Money is not a big issue for me. $50000 is totally ok but they are not even interested in accepting PA-D doing intern (free work for them) now. It is so crazy right now. So lost........!!!
