Trying to speed up getting my license. Please help!

Recommended Posts

I am a new PA-C since last month. I had a job waiting for me so I have been shadowing with stipened while waiting for the licensing process (per contract). It has been a month and I haven't gotten anything yet. I googled a bit, but am just unsure what is legit, etc on what to do to put matters in my own hands. There is one other PA with our practice, but she was already licensed for a couple of years and is currently on vacation so I can't ask her. If it matters, I am employed with a nephrology group and they want me to be able to go to hospitals, dialysis centers, nursing homes, etc and obviously prescribe. If anyone can tell me if I can print something on my own or go someplace myself instead of waiting for a packet to be sent, etc, it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!!

I don't know about IL, here in Washington it took us 4 months to get a new hire (out of state) PA licensed. The biggest hold up was the FBI background check, which is required.

... as opposed to me, who was licensed in WA the same day my PANCE scores were released. Here's how it worked for me, although I suspect you're already past trying any of this.

* Apply for an NPI number before graduation.

* Apply for your license as soon as you can. Depending on your state, this may be before you've graduated or before you've taken the PANCE. The idea would be to get the background check, fingerprinting, payment, etc. out of the way.

* Apply for an interim or temporary license so you can get your DEA application filed. Although, in my experience the DEA application was the fastest part of the process.

The DEA and NPI processes are national, so my experiences should translate. State licensure in IL? No clue.

I don't really know of anyway to speed up the process or everybody would be trying to fast track their license app. Here in California it took 6 weeks to get mine but I was held up by the fact that I had 6 different state nursing license to verify and one of those took 5 weeks to mail the verification to Cali (but they cashed the check 3 days after I mailed it lol). You can call to see if there is anything lacking I guess, I emailed the board here after 4 weeks and got a response a couple days later.
