DaniL23
I was wondering if someone could explain a fair bonus structure in derm. I am a new grad and was offered 60K base salary + 20% of any billing over $150,000. For the first year, I would be training for approx 6 mos and would not likely receive any bonus. After the first year, what would be an expected salary range with this bonus structure? Other details: CME: 2K, 1 week Benefits: I would contribute $200 monthly to HMO for health and dental Vacation: 2 weeks Work approx 40-50 hrs/wk I really want to work in derm and have had trouble finding any new grad jobs in the area (DE). They are very committed to teaching and I would love to work at this office. Any advice?

rudypa
Yeah, I think the base is atleast 20K under what Ive seen as an average start in derm. Now, take into account the difficulty in finding a job in your specific area and unwillingness or inability to look elsewhere, you are limited it would appear. Still, the base can atleast come up 10-15K minimum IMO. Benefits seem pretty good, do you have a family?? Good vaca and CME credit. 401k/b?? Now on to the percentage, Im assuming, >$150,000 collected, or is it actually "billed" Once you get going, I believe you will probably generate $250K+ at a practice such as derm. So, 20k-30k as a yearly bonus seems doable in year 2 on. But you should definitely be clearing 100K by the end of year 2, if you catch on well and are a good clinician. Otherwise, look in another specialty, but DO NOT take 60K as a base!!!
marilynpac
You can look at my other post, derm is nearly impossible for a new grad to get into. They usually go after people who are already trained. Granted it is low ball, but you don't say if there's a Plastic surgeon that works through the office and if that's included. Also 150,000 goes by very quickly in a derm office even w/o a plastics man b/c of all the office procedures that you do. It will add up quick. If you really like this office, go for it, maybe by year 2 things will start looking a lot better. New grads are having a hard time finding jobs esp ones that they feel good doing.
