strunkke
I will start by saying I have a somewhat unique job. I am a robotic PA employed by the hospital to assist multiple physicians during robotic surgery. Love my job and the people I work with. However, as of late we have hired more PAs in my position and our case load has decreased significantly. There are many days I am not scheduled in a case and have to "facilitate" rooms as a nurse would do and/or act as a PCT and clean rooms. This is incredibly frustrating because it's not my job. Period. I didn't want to be a nurse or a PCT for a reason. I want to do surgery. When I bring this up they basically tell me I can go home instead but I have to take my paid time off for these days. Even though there is no real work for me to do. Has anyone else encountered a situation like this? Can they even make me do nurse/pct duties legally? I'm not sure what the solution to this is because I realize they don't want to pay me to sit at home but it's really draining to not be working as a PA sometimes the majority of the week. Also, I am an exempt salaried employee I guess I should mention that. Any insight is appreciated. I've brought this up to management multiple times and they continue to tell me "there is always work to be done" and the other PA I work with apparently enjoys facilitating to she always comments against me. Is it time to just move on? Thanks so much!!
