GRE Score help

Recommended Posts

I am trying to decide whether to retake the GRE. I am a little unclear about if 150 in each section is good or if 50th percentile is the minimum. I am really worried about my math score because it is above 150 but it is the 47th percentile. If someone could tell me if I should retake the exam or if I will be fine with my stats, I would greatly appreciate it.

Based on the information given here, I would say you don't need to bother retaking. Unless there are schools on your list that specifically say their cut off is the 50th percentile for each category, then yes you would need to retake. Your GPA is in a good range so you should be fine.

Generally people say anything over 300 for the combined raw score is good but anything above the 50th percentile in each category is better. Each school will have a different view on how important the GRE is to them. For some programs it is simply a requirement and hoop to get through since PA programs are grouped in with other graduate programs and the admissions requires it more than the PA program. Other programs may use it as a reference point for someone who may have gotten low grades in the past but was able to get a good GRE score more recently.

Good luck!!

I agree with the above. Your score is not awful! If you had gotten one more question right you would have been in the 51st percentile. I do not think you need to retake unless there are schools you want to apply to that have a GRE cutoff at the 50th percentile. When choosing schools to apply to you could also look for programs where you are above the GPA average to even out a GRE score below the average.
