I talked the concept over with a few physicians and most seemed to think that an online didactic component was feasible, and definitely novel. I can't move, so the opportunity to learn medicine from such a reputable school was something I couldn't pass up. I'm thinking this is my first choice. I was told that a decision will be made approximately 3 weeks after an application is deemed complete. The failed attempt was not due to any other reason than a technicality in the waiting period between increases the class size. Now that the program is considered a "separate but equal" education, they should not run into this problem. Look out folks, its the future of education. Don't compare apples to oranges, nurse practitioner model based on nursing model--8-12 hours of clinical training etc. Word is that the Dean of the YSM said medicine can't be taught online--if not good enough for MDs is it good enough for PAs? Do we need an online program with >210 PA programs existing now and no real end in sight to this expansion? Was there a needs assessment done by the YSM/PA program at Yale? A large percentage of students only go to lab and watch the lectures on their own time (at 2-3x speed no less). Online instruction is the future. PA schools are playing catch up here. Watching/listening (to) your professor lecture at home is no different than sitting in class except that it's more convenient. A few of my attending physicians have said the same thing. Looking at online education as anything other than advantageous is nothing more than ignorance and fear of change. Plus, I think that the weekly clinical hours built in to the first year supersedes any posible negatives of attending school online. They wont get their decision from ARC-PA regarding accreditation until September. If that's the case, we aren't going to hear back for a while. I am hoping the limited states will help me have an edge with the application pool. I can imagine how popular this program has the potential of being if the first class goes very smoothly. They have like certain steps in the accreditation process they have to complete by a certain deadline. So they are ensuring they meet those deadlines before they review applications. He said that they have a visit by the accrediting body early next week and will be sending applications over for review by the end of next week!
