Second Phone Interview? What should I expect?

Recommended Posts

I had a phone interview with an clinic/hospital in the city that I am moving too. Since I live in a different part of the country, they are setting up another phone interview with me in a few days. During my first interview I was asked questions about how I handle stress, a time when I had to make a difficult choice, when I have encountered problems with co-workers and how I handled it, etc. My next phone interview is with the physicians of the clinic/hospital. What kind of topics or questions should I expect on my second phone interview?

Also, this may be a stupid question but.. I will not be "quizzed", per say, on an interview, correct?

A surgical practice I interviewed with had a series of phone interviews prior to in-person interviews. Was your first interview with someone from HR or the practice manager? More than likely, your upcoming phone interview with the physician will be more clinically related in terms of further elaborating on your past experience as well as your expectations of the position. I can't imagine a situation where you'd be quizzed or 'pimped' during the interview (it would be a red flag for me if they did). My thoughts are this second part of the interview would be in person if you lived closer and so will likely be your standard interview questions in order to better get to know you as an applicant. My advice is have a copy of your resume in front of you during the interview but otherwise there shouldn't be any prep work you have to do in terms of preparing for any particular topic.

I've never been pimped or asked about a clinical scenario in any interview.

However, my wife works as a pharmacist at an academic hospital and they spend over an hour testing interviewees (full-fledged experienced pharmacists, not resident or student pharmacists) regarding clinical scenarios and management.

Hey OP, I applied for and obtained an ortho position while I lived far away as well. I did a Skype interview with HR and the surgeon (good thing I wore pants, I had to get up to find my headphones as the sound wasn't working - eventually used the video on Skype and my phone as voice). Then when I moved back, I did an in-person interview two days later. They called with the offer the next morning. I am working with one surgeon in a larger physician owned ortho clinic. They never asked me any medical questions, only about my background, experiences in school, about me, etc. More of a "can I get along with this person" kind of thing.
