Deciding Between Two Programs: SUNY Upstate & LeMoyne

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I have been fortunate enough to have been accepted to two great programs. Both have pros and cons so I was hoping to get some input from the PA community.

Both schools have similar PANCE rates and minimal attrition. The major differences lie in the tuition; Upstate would be about 40k a year and Lemoyne 80k. Upstate is affiliated with the Medical School which offers PA students chances to interact with medical students and get access to the teaching hospital and patients after the first semester. Lemoyne does not offer these opportunities, but its program has been around much longer than Upstate allowing its students to explore a multitude of clinical rotations after the first year.

Would attending a more established program in the Upstate area provide better job prospects in the future, or does it truly not matter where you go to school and the savings of Upstate should be taken advantage of?

Any feedback would be much appreciated! Thank you.

One thing to keep in mind is that SUNY Upstate will place you in one geographical area to complete all of your rotations (not necessarily one facility). This placement will be in rural NYS, not Syracuse.

I will be attending SUNY Upstate in June, cost was a great factor for me. Maybe I'll see you in a few weeks! Good luck!
