eravg2016
Hi! I was curious if anyone had leads on jobs in the south Florida area, preferably in Miami or nearby. My husband and I are relocating for his 3rd year of med school. I have 3 years of experience in pulmonary, critical care. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks! stellahead
Pay is low in South Florida. Brace yourself. Use your husband's connections if you can. FAPA's job board has a few new listings each week. That's where I got my current job.
Croooz
Out of curiousity how low is low? I was surprised there are so many PA schools in South Florida so I figured the area is saturated with new grads every year so it would bring the pay down. I was introduced to a new grad last year overjoyed at $50k...that's it...$50k and medical/dental... Didn't have the heart to tell her how bad that was and neither did anyone at the party. Now I'm curious if that's the norm for South Florida.
south
I wouldn't say the norm, but salaries are among the lowest in the country. As I posted in another thread, a classmate of mine took a ~70 hour / week surgery job for $67k. Another classmate took a job with a specialist and $90k and that blew everybody's wheels off. AbeTheBabe
That's crazy, I graduated from a school in south Florida and I don't know of any classmates who took anything less than 80K. But then we also had a lecture about jobs, resumes, expectations, not being shortchanged, etc. One of my friends got a job in an ER somewhere between Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale making 110K, bumped up 10K after year 1. I'm not even getting that much in SoCal!
