MusicalPA
Has anyone gone through this scholarship program that can tell me a little more about it? I know they would pay your tuition and possible stipend for living expenses? Is the pay comparable to the private market, and/or job listings on the VA website for salary? Is it really worth the min 2 year service agreement for loans vs. a possible better paying private market job where you could just pay of your loans quickly? It states Location negotiable, but do you get to pick your specialty at all? Any insights would be great!

MusicalPA
Do they pay for all your tuition for the entire program or only one year? I did not see where the amount or terms of funding were disclosed. Thanks. I didn't see that either. If it is like NHSC scholarship program, the scholarship covers all tuition and gives a stipend for living expenses. If that is the case, I'm sure if you are applying in your final year of school(which the add puts preference on applicants) that they won't retroactively cover your previous year of PA school. I know if you get the NHSC scholarship going into school, they will pay for all of your tuition for all the years up to 4 years, and how ever many years you had the scholarship, that is how many years you put into service. This scholarship is a minimum of 2 years even though you would only get one years worth of tuition applying in your final year. Maybe there are some lucky people that get all of their schooling covered applying going into school. I wonder if someone applies for the scholarship and gets accepted, then the terms would become more clear and you can accept or pass on the scholarship? Maybe there is someone we could email for additional information?
MusicalPA
This is the email I received in response to my questions about the scholarship. Once you graduate and are placed within VA, your pay will be the same as other PAs in the VA with equivalent experience and education. Locality also plays a part in total pay. This program is not retroactive in payment. Payments start Fall 2017. As part of the acceptance into HPSP, the applicant must sign a mobility agreement stating that they are willing to relocate at their own expense for placement at the discretion of VA. While we do work with you in the placement process to meet our needs and yours, there is no guarantee. We request your top 5 placement options 6-months prior to graduation and work with you to try and place within your Top 5 list but once again, there are no guarantees. We top off any existing grants and scholarship up to 100% tuition and approved fees. There is also a monthly stipend of $1125 while you are in school as well as a once a year stipend of $1125 for books. btvample
When you sign the mobility agreement, you give them a top 5 list 6 months before you graduate? Is the mobility agreement within the united states? Could you go to another country for your service obligation? thanks
