quarterlengthsleeve
I am going to graduate PA School in May and am just starting to fill out resumes for jobs! I am interested in a certain specialty. If I am going to apply for a job in my favorite specialty, do I need a reference from a doc in that specific specialty or can I just use any preceptor? Does it matter which kind of doctor/PA preceptor gives the recommendation if it is a good recommendation?
overthehorizen
I don't think it matters that your references come from Physician preceptors in specialties other than that in which you hope to practice. I think I had four references for my first job in primary care. Three were preceptors and one was a faculty member. I asked a General Surgery preceptor Physician for a reference even though I had no plans to work in surgery. He was happy to give a reference based on the good work during the rotation.
