PAtypal
Hello! I am new to the PA profession and just wanted to get some opinions on this offer that is being discussed. I work in outpatient psych (for which I am salaried) and this is an offer in conjuncture with my full time job. The consults would be at a local hospital and are suppose to take place after my shift at the office (usually start at 9 and end around 5). These would be psych consults. They are offering 25$ for each initial patient contact and 17$ for any follow up contact after that. I'm not very familiar with the amount of time/ effort that would be involved with these kinds of consults. I have not yet had the chance to ask if this affects weekends or holidays (which I would normally have off). Does this sound reasonable? Are there any questions I should be asking? Thank you!! Moderator EMEDPA Posted January 26, 2017 Moderator Share Posted January 26, 2017 should probably be at least 100/50. you are probably going to spend 45+ min the first time and 15-20 for any f/u/...
PAtypal
Thank you all for your input! I did feel that it was a pretty low ball offer, but wanted to run it by some people who have been out in the field longer before making any assumptions! south
Call me out of my house, gotta put like actual clothes and shoes back on and drive someplace - for $25? can't even get your house (or your car) cleaned for that. "Sorry, did you mean $250/170? Darn typos."
pta1911
I'm currently rotating through an acute psychiatric hospital and the Psych NP is making 100 buck a follow up.. he sees 15 a day.. may do 1-2 initial evals during the week. He was lucky enough to be able to take advantage of the shortage of providers in the area is why he makes this much.. needles to say, your offer seems a tad bit low. That's $375k a year to do follow ups if he works 5 days a week for 50 weeks... which if I was making that kind of money I'd be there
PAtypal
Hey everyone! I got an update on everything today. They took their numbers back to whoever is in charge of financials and came back with 40/initial and 33/follow up. I don't think they're going to budge any further than that and they have a really hard time getting physicians to have any interest in these. I think I'm going to pass on it all together. Thank you all for your help!
cbrsmurf
$33 is reasonable for a follow-up. $40 for an initial consult is not.

Thank you all for your help! humm strange - a doc says absolutely no thank you - at those rates...... yeah not even close to reasonable rates don't cheapen our entire profession by taking that "offer" (which is actually insulting) Consult could take upwards of 1.5 to 2 hours - $40 means you get $20/ hour as a consult specialist.... yeah NOPE
