Using Step Exam Resources to Study for the PANCE

Recommended Posts

I will be taking the PANCE in 3 months and have been trying to determine the best way to study for it. To give you a little background I received a raw score of 165 on my PACKRAT. I am currently using Rosh Review and will be attending an Emory board review at my school during the last week of our program. Until then, I have been looking for another resource to use in addition to Rosh to study both for the boards and for my last two rotations/EOR exams. I know a lot of PA students who use Step Up to Medicine to study but for some reason I can not get into that book. As a substitute I found First Aid for the USMLE Step 1 and 2 which I ordered and really like. I am a little nervous about using step exam study material to prepare for the PANCE even though I plan to skip over the basic science stuff unless it is directly pertinent to the topic I am studying. I have found a few people on this forum and other places who said that they used First Aid to study for the PANCE but I would like more input. Any thoughts about using these materials for PANCE prep?

The reason that I am looking outside of the typical PANCE prep resources is because I struggle with memorizing/understanding information unless I understand the underlying pathophysiology. I have found that the PANCE books are somewhat lacking in pathophysiology while the step books have more pathophys and basic sciences that I can reference if I am truly struggling to understand something.

Davis goes deep. Get yourself a KAPLAN test bank as well. The questions are harder but they dive deep into the explanations

I am applying to PA school 10 years after passing the USMLE Step1 (and later withdrawing from med school for other reasons). I want to review all material that will be pertinent to PA school and the PANCE. What in the USMLE books should I skip over?

Thank you!! I really need to focus on refreshing the things that will matter, so any guidance from those of you who have done/are doing PA school would be extremely helpful.
