US Acute Care Solutions EM group -- anybody with experience working for this group?

Recommended Posts

Would like to get any intel on working for this EM group, positive or negative. I have worked with a different group for several years and have seen some negative changes driven by the productivity/numbers game recently. Is this a general trend in larger ER groups that a merging together and becoming more focused on profitability?

Yes, it is a trend.  TeamHealth, EmCare/Envision, EMP/US Acute Care Solutions are all buying up smaller hospital based and regional EM systems.  As corporate entities, they are profit driven.  Since it's a labor based business, profits increase when staffing costs go down (i.e. wages, benefits, hours) and productivity goes up.

Both the staffing company and the individual ED department culture have effects on how attractive a job can be.  The staffing co sets overall HR policy such as benefits, but hourly compensation is typically site dependent (i.e. what it takes go get enough providers there).  The site culture also has a large effect on how pleasant it is to work at a site.

Started working for USACS a couple of months ago as a moonlighting job.  So far they seem good; well organized, fair salary, benefits if I was full-time look to be quite good (especially the retirement package).  The folks I've spoken with seem fairly happy working there, and there is a big push at the leadership level to increase the use of PAs and have us work to the full scope of our licenses.

I think you'll see variability based upon the actual local site (like any big company), but at least on first impressions they seem like a good company to work for.
