8404PA
"The agency said a physician's assistant and three nurses...resigned after an investigation was conducted" http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/12/04/4-quit-after-oklahoma-veteran-with-maggots-in-wound-dies.html our grass roots are military, WTF. Boatswain2PA
Every patient I've seen with maggots either were already dead or died soon afterwards. Unfortunately it's not that uncommon in our mentally ill/poverty stricken/un controlled DM population. I assume the big issue here is the PA and nurses missed the fact that he had maggots. That's pretty bad.
Moderator EMEDPA Posted December 4, 2016 Moderator Share Posted December 4, 2016 you have to remove a dressing to see a maggot... wind/wound/water/walk for any new fever, especially post-op. if you don't know what that means, LOOK IT UP!

He did not want his legs cut off due to his religious beliefs. He wanted to die as a whole man. I explained this to the administration and to the medical doctors and was ignored." While it seems there are other issues with the PA, there is a lot more to the story that was left out in many articles. It seems the patients was refusing wound care and other advised medical treatments. The Talihinia VA has had many issues, and there has been talk of it being moved to McAlester for the proximity to a larger town.

Moderator EMEDPA Posted December 5, 2016 Moderator Share Posted December 5, 2016 the PA got rehired because it does not appear that they had done anything wrong. the problem with the medical board was "improper supervision". that is a system issue. they can't help if there is no attending on site 8 hrs/week.
